So, does anyone actually play games here, and if so, how about some CoTW or Zero 3 Upper/CvS2 l? Not gonna call it lag fests anymore, netcode is beyond that and “slightly laggy to functional” fest doesn’t have that ring.

I'm only playing on the Steam Deck now because reasons, so I won't be playing online for a while, but I just wanted to say that Hauzer Fighting Jam is still what we all remember it to be. I want to play Power Stone but I'll have to wait until I have a proper controler in my hands.

I played a bit of Star Gladiator 2, of which I only had passing memories, and this game remains rough. It feels like they were still figuring out 3D fighting games, even though even the first Justice Gakuen was so much more competent and pleasant to control.
Scratch that, it even feels like they are figuring out fighting games period. Many characters are just supremely basic, and the plasma field thing is a worse system than Savior's already strange Dark Force system.
At least the designs remain extremely good as always for 90s Capcom, and I'd love these characters to pop out in some Capcom VS anything at some point.

I'm immensely bothered that they added the (great) artwork for Zero3 Double Upper, yet the game is only normal Upper. I know, there is no good version of Double Upper, adding the 3 characters to Upper would have been a controversial move and probably more work than it's worth, but... It's the third time we're buying Zero 3 in the last 5 years or so, at some point they have to do it, don't they? Call it Triple Upper and add Alex if you must.

CvS1 remains weirdly interesting. The backgrounds are better than 2, the Ratio system remains silly, the general esthetics with the arrows and the TV screens is... unique, and I'm still shocked Dictator has Boxer as his henchman but Geese doesn't have Billy (Even in the NGPC version Billy is just a cameo!). Too bad the backgrounds haven't been ported to CvS2 because I'm a bit sick of those after all these years.
Also, I hate Shinkiro's art during this period, and even some of Kinu's art looks weird. I really feel that for this period, Edayan was the artist with the most "Capcom" esthetics and it's a shame he wasn't picked for this (although I imagine doing all these portraits in a short time wasn't easy).

Speaking of Edayan, Moejus is still fantastic. 10/10 no notes.

Oh, and a note on the gallery: it's of course very pretty and has a few interesting sketches of intros or demos (and inexplicably of Vice's move design), but I find it a bit lacking compared to MvC's gallery. There should have been many more move sketches (maybe Vice's was the only one that was kept in good conditions? It was 25 years ago in all fairness).
I was especially hoping they'd add some WIP sketches, like the sprites of the SF1 characters they were working on for Fighting Jam that they couldn't finish because the game had a 2 weeks development cycle. It would have been nice to have those things saved in an official capacity rather than having to rely on random people on the Internet archiving things.

Am I mistaken, or does CFC2 lack cross play? We are on so many different systems that it would probably be easier for everyone to fly to a designated location and play in someone's living room.

As for the collection itself, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed CvS2. What an absurd number of characters and gameplay options. The game didn't need an entirely new soundtrack, but why not? The music team at Capcom seems to really enjoy their work.

Iggy is right, CvSPro is strange but fascinating. I love the look of the game and how audacious it was. It didn't totally come together, but it's still a far better game than CvS1 and its terrible EX characters. Also, the game features that dead-fish portrait of Guile that haunts me to this day.

Oh, and I played a game of CFJ because someone had to.

I'll get around to the other games when I scrounge up some free time.

It does lack crossplay, but I have it on multiple platforms, so I can do whatever (I will admit at this point I am basically a steam user, though)

We had it so good in the Y2K era!

(it's really cool that they included CVS1 Pro in the collection tho!)

Indeed, though I wish they included the original CvS1 in the collection since I spent a lot of time with that version.

Also glad CFJ was included. I had the game on the original Xbox, so it was nostalgic playing it in the collection. That wore off after 20 minutes or so once the "MUGEN-ness" set in. However, I will occasionally switch to museum mode to hear the character select music, which I theorize, was intended for a Marvel game.

What's everyone's thoughts on the "2k5" CvS2 music? Not sure I'm 100% on it yet.

So much to do so little time...
