DeNA to replace Club Nintendo. Hmmm...

So Nintendo to handout IP to make dedicated mobile games, BUT still make dedicated portable/console games. To show they aren't quitting the console market, they are working on a new platform Codename NX, where DeNA will be central.

It's quite a surprising announcement that sounds like it could work considering DeNA/Mobage's current status and the needs of Nintendo! When it comes to closed systems, Mobage used to be one of the kings in Japan.

How are the faithful taking this news? For the past several console cycles Nintendo has developed a following that enjoys its status as a brand as much as it appreciates the games. What do they think of the news that Nintendo is now heading into the mobile market? What do industry types think of this move?

I suspect the NX announcement was there just to let people know that Nintendo is still in the console wars. Personally I think announcing some hypothetical machine this far out feels like a nervous move but Nintendo usually errs on the side of extreme caution.

The thing about this news is that it seems like Nintendo's version of the PlayStation Mobile. Given the way how Sony's project went, I'm wondering what Nintendo and DeNA have up their sleeves to make their project a success. Very intrigued indeed.

Literally last week Sony shut down PS Mobile, which sounds like a really similar thing that Nintendo is doing here. What on earth!

Yeow, I forgot that PS Mobile even existed! Here's to hoping Nintendo has a better game plan.

Announcing it right after the stock exchange closed yesterday robbed us of the real fun but NTDOY jumped a drastic +27.50% this morning. The stock was pretty low so nobody is going crazy but the market liked the move enough to bring the stock back to 2013's levels and bring the shares' price back to the level of ActiBlizz/SQEX/Ubi.

It appears that whatever the membership service they are creating is what is replacing Club Nintendo. I cannot possibly imagine what kind of rewards they could possibly offer to be on par with Club Nintendo. I hope whatever plans Nintendo has in store includes keeping the Smash Bros Amiibos in the light. They appear to be selling quite well, but seem to have very few uses and are kinda glorified memory cards for Smash.

Oh wow. I am kind of saddened by this. Isn't Brandon's game "Gunhouse" technically on the PS Mobile section of PS Vita? I never got around to getting a Vita and the game even though I always wanted to.

Nintendo has so many games they could manipulate to be copycats of the more popular mobile games. I could see a remix of Yoshi's Cookie to a match three or a Yoshi game where you angle an egg and shoot it like Angry Birds. Wario Ware could easily transfer over. Nintendo Picross, Dr. Mario, Nintendogs?

I kinda wish that Nintendo kind of attempted to do a mobile game approach to the 3DS eshop before going fully mobile. Those types of games could easily be made for the 3DS as well as a smartphone. The problem is Nintendo probably couldn't price them "correctly." Hell, Nintendo's Virtual Console has been $3-4 overpriced for the last few years.

Why haven't we gotten remixes of Game and Watch games or the 3DS for 99 cents? Release one of those a month and it would give people a reason to look at the eshop more often. I really only open up the eshop if I read about a sale online.

Apparently Fatal Frame is also making its way to the US/EU too:

Other news, SMTxFE feels like the same way Sony wanted to make their own brand of Dark Souls in the form of Bloodborne, Nintendo wants to make their own brand of Persona in the form of Illusory Revelations ♯Fire Emblem
http://www.tradukosoft.com/2015/04/342/

Speaking of FEif, I dunno if the plan they have with its Japanese release will apply to its release abroad. Only Japanese release has been detailed so far:

Oh yeah, and I think Zelda's delay might have pushed NoA to the edge to get Fatal Frame V localized. Good.

I won't lie, the first footage I saw of FExSMT made me think it was originally intended to be a spinoff of P4 Dancing All Night.

Did someone fly by on a rocket powered unicorn? Generations ago when they first announced this game a young Ishmael couldn't figure out how they were going to bring two very different games together into one title. After watching that trailer I still don't know.

The news about FE:if makes the game sound wildly ambitious. I like FE:A well enough but I find that since I only play it in short spurts I often forget about a vital mechanic, mis-manage my team into a no-win situation, and am forced to delete my entire game and start over from scratch. Now they want me to choose from one of four versions of the game and eventually purchase and grind through multiple variations of the storyline? I clearly need to learn how to deal with portable time sinks because I'm getting overwhelmed with choices while reading through the press release.

I think FExSMT may very well be the first crossover of two franchises without any recognizable character or feature from any of the two source universes, and entirely made to appeal to fans of a third franchise (in this case, the new PSP Shining games? The new Xanadu? Soul Online?).
Underwhelmed doesn't even start to describe my feelings. Fortunately, Rockman cosplays arrive to Smash and Mario Kart 8 and all is fine once again.

Speaking of the western Nintendo Direct, did they finally announce either Hako Boy or the badge customization F2P game whose name I can never remember? Because these two have proved amazingly addictive since the last Japanese Direct, and I'm surprised they weren't released worldwide...
The badge thing might be tricky, since that annoyingly cute rabbit has 30 original lines of new text every day and that's probably difficult to localize properly. And he's 80% of the appeal of the game for me...
I hope we get him in the next Smash, so I can punch him in the face and then squeeze it with love because he's just adorable. And then slap him again because god is he annoying.

In the european direct they announced Hako boy, I don't remember if it's scheduled for april or may.
The badge collection thing wasn't announced and probably never will.
