I know some artists who are currently doing freelance work. They have experience making sprites for shipped games. They'll probably ask for a professional rate, so expect to pay at least a few hundred bucks if you want a good game-ready sprite set. I'm not sure what your budget is, but it couldn't hurt to get in touch.
