I don't remember if Super Mario Brothers Crossover was buried in another random thread, but I'll be damned if it gets buried this time! It's almost 100% high-fidelity Mario 1 but with all the Famicom legends playable. I think Rockman is probably best. Magnificent work all around, here.

To this day I still play Mario 3 like it's my job, but it'd been so long since I played 1...I forgot that

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
the second warp zone is in 4-2 and not 4-1!

End of Spoiler

To be honest, I have been waiting for this version to pop up prior to dedicate myself to the game.

You made me remember the Rockman 7 FC, that is clearly superior to the stinky original. The 8th one is under works, I think.

.... To think that only this morning I was having nightmares of being endlessly trapped in that infinite, confusing & illogical maze of rooms that look alike called "Metroid" (the original one). Who said that "The Cube" was innovative?

I'm actually wondering if Nintendo will seek any action over this. After all, the Crossover is basically a copy of the entire SMB1 with new characters, that uses assets from the original NES game. Definitely could be seen as a competitor to Virtual Console sales...

Oh, I can't see how they possibly won't. And if not them, there's five other companies or so that can get in on the game. If I didn't know how lawsuit-happy Americans were, I'd say that maybe they'd all decided to "let this one go" since it's too wonderful, but I suspect they're just preparing extra-lethal "cease and desist" cannons. For once, I actually wish I knew how to save copies of Flash games.

What's the point of having Mario in this anyway?

On a tangent, I'm reminded of this:

It's pretty easy.

1. Go to website.

2. View Source Code by right clicking and saying View Source (I think it's different per browser).

3. Find the swf link. Last I checked its:
http://uploads.ungrounded.net/534000/534416_SmbcPreloader.swf

4. Get some download manager, like download them all, and drag the link into it.

5. Once it's downloaded, drag that sucker into a browser and you can play it!

It's a great game, I really want the hayabusa version myself :)

Brilliant! I will make use of this info shortly, many thanks. Also, I will be in Tokyo (but not for work this time) late July I think. Hop up from down South if you care to! I may e-mail about this later...

Let me know. I'm in Osaka now but if I can I'll try to make it... don't have many opportunities to go to Tokyo recently.

I would like to unceremoniously bump up this thread and tell you people how could my pagan self not know of the wonders of the Famicom Disk System. The extra sound channel make everything sound so much better , and in some reaaaallllyyy strange cases there is even some slight differences in the usage of colors in some games (like, a couple of items are colored slightly different (& better) in Akumajou Dracula).

They played a lot with the cheap extra space in the games, for example in Zelda 1 every boss has a distinctive howling sound, unlike that generic american hungry T rex sound that we happily grew up with, ka ka ka.

Oh god no... no......... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Those damned accursed memories are resurfacing

No, no thank you .... Then again perhaps now all of the cast won't be so generic gameplay wise.
