Wow, that's really startling. It's always awful to see such a long-lived magazine disappear, but let's be honest-- they had been in decline for at least a decade, as far as actual content in concerned. Still, for my college years it was a great source of information about imports, prior to such info being easy to find online.
I feel old now.
I didn't like the direction the magazine was going in the last few years (well, last decade really), but it still makes me sad to see EGM go.
That magazine was a big part of my childhood.
So many fond memories from the 8bit and 16bit eras. I still remember the sweat on my palms as I opened up to their double page spread on Seiken Densetsu 3. Or during the Chrono Trigger era (Yes i mark milestones in my life with videogames), when they were releasing 300 plus page issues.
Good times!
You will be missed EGM.
I suppose I'm the only one who actually enjoyed the last 10 years of EGM. I have fond memories as well...learning about Tekkens 2 and 3 from there first...the SF3 hoax...good times. Lately, their features were great and informative reads, and the recently cancelled Hsu and Chan was hilarious.
I guess there's always 1UP, but it just won't be the same.
Er.....

Saga 2 is probably better than Saga 1. Saga 3 is crap, wasn't made by the Saga team, and shouldn't even be mentioned. All in all, the (original GB) Saga series is really old, and it will surely be upgraded will all sorts of systems coming from the more recent Saga games, like RomaSaga1 was in Minstrel Song. But the game was quite different from RomaSaga, and it's going to be more of a matter of tweaking the unique systems of the original game to keep the original's flavour. The designs have also been modernized.
It's hard to know what the game will be worth without knowing who does it, how much of the Saga team is involved (especially with Last Remnant released on 360, but not on PS3 and PC), and what they are doing with it. The new designs and the 3D are hit or miss. One really good thing, though : they kept a portable game on a portable console, instead of remaking a Romancing Sa.Ga2 DS.

He only did half of the original soundtrack, but I have faith. More importantly, the executive producer/supervisor/etc is confirmed to be Kawazu, along with Tanaka Hiromichi, who wrote the scenario and the concept of the original game, and also worked on FF 1, 2,3, Seiken 2, director of Seiken 3, producer and battle system designer on Xenogear, Chrono Cross, Producer of Dewprism and FFXI and add ons. Finally, executive producer/director of FF3DS. That team alone is enough to make the game an instant hit for me.
The director is Yoshimoto Yôichi, who worked on Musashiden and Unlimited Saga (which is a great news for approximately 3 persons on earth, me and my two imaginary friends).
The biggest problem so far is the main character designer, Kobayashi Gen, who did subarashiki kono sekai and Musashiden 2. But Minstrel Song survived to Naora, so...
Miura Hiroyuki, the producer, also worked on FF6 advance. Meh.

Shouldn't those be two huge red flags, though, SaGa fan or no?

No harm in loving Unlimited SaGa, meanwhile, since Hamauzu did the music and anything he touches is therefore gold.

quote: This is probably old news, but I don't recall having seen it around here. Sengoku Basara is going to have an anime adaptation. Production IG is in charge and all the seiyuus of the original cast are in as well.
It seems Capcom has forgotten that Basara used to be a hack'n slash action game, but the yaoi fangirl-servicing side of the franchise is still safe and sound.
Eh, I just think of the PSP game as a nice little side-thing, and, if Kobyashi is to believed, it's going to be the last time they're going to use those PS2-level assets. In that light, it's not too fundamentally different from that upcoming Dynasty Warriors PSP Game (StrikeForce, or whatever it's called, the one that has "Transformations" and more Wuxia action).
BASARA 3 proper is still in the pipeline, however, and it's probably being actively worked on, even as this PSP goes gold. When and where it will come, I couldn't tell you, but some rumors state that we won't see anything until Koei comes out with their own Sengoku Musou 3, and there's also the persistent rumor that it will be a Wii game.
Would be logical in a lot of respects, seeing how Koei has been struggling, and trying to capture that lucrative fangirl market, but we'll see.

The idea that Capcom might be waiting for Koei to make the first move is an odd thought. I figured at some point Capcom would want to move Basara past the impression that it is just a variation on Koei's historical brawlers. Then again, judging from the latest Basara game offerings, Capcom may not actually know what to do with Basara other than see what someone else does first. Whatever the case is, here's to hoping the anime is fun.
Koei has been floundering with the latest generation of consoles but their merger with Tecmo should be the shot in the arm they need. I expect Nobunaga's Xtreme Beach Volleyball to be the hot title of 2010.

Akira, Okama errr... Obama and Cyborg 009 characters aside, SFOnline's character roster is most interesting indeed. I almost can't believe they nonchalantly threw in a whole bunch of Jin Yong/Louis Cha's novel heroes... in all seriousness, this has to be the BEST CAST IN FIGHTING GAMES HISTORY EVER!! OMGFTWBBQ!!!!!11111one
Whenever somebody announced that Mr. Obscure Character A or Ms. Worthless Sidekick B are making their way into the roster of this or that game, I couldn't but observe my fellow cafer's excitement with certain apathy. But now, having a roster with Mei Chaofeng and (OMG!) Zhou Botong from Condor Heroes, Linghu Chong from The Smiling Proud Wanderer, and even Hu Fei from Flying Fox of the Snowy Mountain... heck, it's ME who is excited! I guess I still care about videogames after all!!
I suppose it's just a dirty trick to goad the game's popularity on east asian markets, where people dig for these wuxia guys, but I can not but take my hat off to Capcom (or whoever is behind this crazy thing) for making my day.

EDIT A question for Toxico and Iggy: are either of you planning to find a more permanent place to hang your overviews of WH2J and VS? The reports are far too well done to sink into BBS limbo.
Well, in my case, since everything is a copipe from a TxT of my authoring, I could upload the txt in another place and add it to my tag (like, I have already done with other topic, somewhere else). We could also add permanent links to the thread within our profiles.
Also, I was thinking that the Professor MUST use that Vampire vs WH idea for an April's fools update of this site (which, in return, could link to our threads; and as such would be safe from updates for the next 10, 15 or 20 upcomming years).
We could also demand a insert credit review and back up of the posts & the games

Don't know if any of you ever played Flow back in the day, a dreamy sort of game where you started as a simple water organism (?) and sort of grew pleasantly into longer chains, but Flow(er) is a gorgeous realization of the artful idea, this time with flowers on PS3. You basically become the wind/a flower petal, and blow around pretty vistas, becoming a longer chain of flowers and seeing interesting things. You control just by one button and the tilt mechanism of the controller, almost like it's a steering wheel, which might make it the first flower petal racing game ever.
It's a short experience, but I really liked it...might be the first game where I was glad of downloadable capacities on current systems, since being an inexpensive download meant it could be exactly as long as it needed to be, without getting stretched out for "more content."

I enjoyed Flow more than I thought I would, after having waited until it was released on PSP to try it out (no PS3 for me). I'm hoping Flow(er) will be brought over to PSP as well, obviously. After Flow I had hoped that more games would follow this trend of games that were more about a straight interactive experience and less about story or points or whatever.
I agree with your point about making the game just as long as it needs to be. I paid a few bucks for Flow, messed around with it some, 'finished' with it, and now every now and then I go back to it. Unlike a lot of longer games I think I really got my money's worth out of it.
Glad you played Flow on PSP, though Flower is so gorgeous that I'm sure it can't be scaled down properly, so it may be worth trying at a friend's who has (otherwise unwisely, unless you love Metal Gear Solid 4) bought a PS3. It's the first next-gen game I've seen that actually did something that intrigued me rather than re-outfitting the corpses of tired genres like first-person shooters with pretty graphics. Funny that a downloadable game of all things made me want a PS3 somewhat. Other non-point-central games have been my favorites lately, too...Colossus and Katamari several years ago, Rez...

Get pumped.
Plus, honestly, I found it to be fun and relaxing to just mess around with it.
I'll admit though, I really wished in the end that it was more open-ended. The game is beautiful but short-- unless for a long playthrough you want to just play the same scenarios over and over. But it's a minor complaint.
So on a related note, IS there a real reason to buy a PS3 yet? From what I've heard, there is no territorial lockout, which is nice, but backward compatibility is gone, and besides, I don't even think that any 2D fighters have been released for it-- until BlazBlue, whenever that's supposed to happen. But we should maybe take this OT elsewhere.

Again, I'm just left wondering if they'll just go ahead and cram the roster with as much content as they can. After all, if it's not going to be a game crafted with a new sprite-set and such, what else is there for Noise to do?
Bring back the ROTD charas, while they're at it. With no new game in that series looking likely, either, they might as well let !Billy, !Jimmy and all their friends from that game join this party, and extend the roster even more.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun paper reported on Tuesday that the toy giant Takara Tomy and the American comic entertainment company Marvel have agreed to work together on Marvel character toys for Japanese retail this fall. According to the report, Tatsunoko Production (the anime studio that became a subsidiary of Takara Tomy in 2005-2006) is producing a television anime with characters from both Tatsunoko's portfolio of anime titles and Marvel's library of comic series. The company aims to broadcast the anime in three years in Japan as well as in international markets.
Marvel signed the licensing agreement with the Takara Tomy Arts subsidiary. While the details of the deals will be made public later, Takara Tomy will initially sell about 100 kinds of toys and clothings based on Spider-Man, Iron Man, and other characters. It is also exploring the possibilities of sales in the rest of Asia.
I swear Capcom is responsible. I just KNOW they are. Seriously though, it makes a lot of sense when you think about. very little of Tatsunoko's franchises really made it to the US. The only two that really made it over here are Gatchaman and Speed Racer. Yeah we have things like Karas and Casshern. But those are more Cult-followings.
Kinda hard to release TvC over here with that problem (and that's IF they could get the licensing straightened out)
According to insider Trieu (whose been awfully quiet lately...) Back then instead of MvC3, they wanted to try to make Marvel vs DC vs Capcom. Now we've got this upcoming Anime series. It would be far easier to license the characters based off this ONE Anime and then add Capcom characters, and then bring it over. No problem.
Anyway, three years. I know a lot of that is probably involving getting approval from Marvel to do certain things, but here's hoping we get something along the lines of Karas or Casshern Sins in Animation Quality
