http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/confidence/58333/full/

A scenario of the late Akira Kurosawa is going to be animated in Japan for the 100th birthday of the artist.
It's an adaptation of a novel by Edgar Allan Poe, the Masque of the Red Dead (instead it's black, here. Kurokishi, you know).

But the biggest news in the article is that, for the same birthday, Hollywood will celebrate by... remaking Rashomon.
It's going to be called Rashomon 2010 and talk about the murder of a businessman in a small American city, and other stuff that will, for sure, keep the spirit of the original movie alive.

This is fucking insane.
Each time, it sounds like a random parody that could be in an episode of The Critic, except it's real, and some actual people greenlight the project and give actual bucks to produce it.

The title Rashomon 2010 is almost as funny as Seven Samurai 20XX and it will probably be just as bad. Still, Rashomon has been officially remade several times and ripped off many more so I doubt one more version is going to do any harm. If the story can survive an adaptation featuring William Shatner it can take anything.

Speaking of The Shat, maybe we should all relax by listening to William Shatner sing Rocket Man.

Now let's listen to Chris Elliot sing Rocket Man.

Finally, we'll finish this musical interlude with Stewie singing Rocket Man.

The funny thing is, Kurosawa movies really don't need to be remade or updated for modern audiences.

I recently watched Seven Samurai with my brother who's not a big film buff or anything and he loved it. He thought it was very meaningful AND entertaining. He was surprised by how old it was because it didn't seem dated or stilted like many other films from that period.

The only reason to remake a Kurosawa film is to add color, add western actors, decrease the shot lengths and add music that dictates how the audience should be feeling.

Not that it really needs commenting, but I consider Rashomon to be one of the best pieces of film bar none, and it irritates me to no end that it's being remade.

I'm pretty excited! I wonder if they'll do it in a newer Toriyama derived style, like the Blue Dragon Anime or the DBZ TV special with the historical figures fighting each other.

I find amusing to see that they have entirely skipped SF3 from the retrospective, yet included all her incarnations on SF Zero series in spite of sharing the same sprites and design. Amusing on a saddening way, I mean.

It was helpful of someone to stamp the movie's title on that wildly generic Chun-Li picture so I would what it was I was supposed to be looking at. Too bad they didn't include a reason for me to feel any excitement for the film.

The DBZ movie, however, continues to generate excitement for all the wrong reasons. The news that Goku is going to turn into some sort of lizard hand puppet fills me with delight. I know it's not going to be any good but it looks like it's going to be so campy that it will be a must-see.

Aw, c'mon... We all knew this project would end like this. At least we'll end getting some cheap laughs and a bunch of 4chan "shops" to LOL at...

BTW, I noticed that the music grasps the film's mood incredibly well. Nothing like some church-like chorus to perfectly match a sci-fi film based on a chinese folk legend. Plus, we see Picollo/Spike in motion at last, and he's green!!! This trailer is BADASS...

Dragonball: The Movie: The Game

Amazingly, this probably will not be the worst game to use the DB license.

These kind of products remind me of why I wanted to destroy mankind in the first place.

All these movies look like complete shit. I'm just glad I'm in a place where I don't need to explain why, it's self explanatory. All we can hope for is for some of them to give us some comedy gold like good o'l street fighter starting Jean Claude Van Dam.

Lost Planet to cost between 150-200 Million

I can't see the movie getting half of that, but if those RE movies can generate millions I guess it isn't too far fetched that this might catch a break.

Awesome. I wonder who they will get to play Wayne.

Perhaps James Van Der Beek?
