i've seen this image a thousand times but never noticed that little symbol there inbetween the tail and back leg before. just curious what it meant

It's the kanji 技, which means "art" or "technique" and could probably be stretched to "skill". I have a feeling someone more Japanese proficient may come in and correct me, though.
