Over at IGN SNK's long suffering Ben Herman discusses SNK games on the Wii VC and the possibility of a summer release for the first Fatal Fury compiliation in the US.

Interesting tidbit he mentioned:

quote:
"If you want to bring any fighters to PS3 and Xbox 360 you have the requirements of high definition, with 720p and beyond. The original NeoGeo graphics were of course not in that resolution, so you'd have to re-draw every single older game if you wanted to make those games work for those two systems. What's going to happen is there'll be new development which will be done in HD, which can then be brought to those platforms as those hardware manufacturers require."

Dunno if this means KoF XII and bayond will be HD, that MI3 will naturally look sharper than the previous ones, or if older games will get the Re-bout treatment though...

I wish there was more info on European releases, but VC games getting a world wide release on the Wii isn't too bad.

Would love an HD Garou: Mark of the Wolves treatment.

I really hope that KOF XII would get the 2d HD sprite WITH very updated animation...because then i would understand why they keep touting it the next revolution in 2d fighting games.

Now that the remake of Street Fighter 2 in high definition has been announced, I wonder if SNK will respond at all.

How is KOF doing in Japan these days?

On a side note, did anyone figure out why Maximum Impact 2 didn't see a release here?

Here as in the US or PAL regions? It came out here in the US as KoF2006.

While on the subject of 3D KoF, whatever happened to King of Fighters Maximum Impact Regulation A? It somehow dropped into developmental limbo even though I thought it would be a fairly easy upgrade.

Well, there was footage of Blue Mary actually fighting in January uploaded to Youtube, but I suppose it's been a while since anything new has been released. I think they're tweaking features and stuff, most likely.

This little bit was the last I heard of it.

* At the moment, the game is 70% complete.

* Location Test is planned.

* The date and location will be announced shortly

* Location is likely to be somewhere in Tokyo.

* There are more secret characters not yet revealed, other than Ash and Mary.

* Returning characters are also adjusted, with the addition of new moves and desperation moves.

* The game balance is also being readjusted for arcade gaming.

* The development is having some setbacks due to "lack of talent".

* The development team is looking for part-time bug testers. One can apply for the position through website.

Since they have a planned location test it'll probally be revealed soon enough.

Prob. won't know that until after the loc test is over, but I'm interested. That is, if I didn't forget about the arcade port the first time.

Wow I feel dumb, I forgot about the name change.

I wonder why they changed the name? KOF: Max Impact 1 did really well compared to #2.

I think it had a lot to do with SNK wanting to change the perception of KOF as a 2D-only franchise. Honestly though, I think it was a mistake, and is probably part of the reason it didn't sell as well.

hmmm.

...And with they wanting to straighten out that Western versions are indeed different products, at the end.

April '07 and they still lookin' for graphic artists for KOF XII, by the way.

Oh, and a nice PS2 bonus announced for the upcoming Galaxy Force II in the Sega Ages 2500 series, while we're on it.

Did MI2 get as much US distribution as MI1 did? MI1 appeared to have a huge advertising push behind it as well as a large number of copies sent to the stores. In comparison MI2 had a much more modest release. Too bad, since I thought MI2 was a rather fun game.

Yikes, that can't be good news. Thankfully(?) SNKP still has enough resources to put out those girl dating and/or groping games on the DS.

Rather than more Max Impact I'm more interested in seeing how the 3D Samurai Shodown is coming along.

Or maybe because it's 2007 now, so the very same mental capacities they were trying to deceive will have passed it up for being a year old.

Here are some Maximum Impact Arcade shots if anyone is interested.

I noticed the Buriki One billboards in one of the backgrounds. It would be interesting to get Gai in this game.
