What I get from it is that you can play both as L, in which case you have to investigate until you get to "Kira=Light", or Kira, where you have to track down L...
They also say sth about some "Kiragame"... but I don't get it u_u
Anyway, if you play as Kira, tho', they'd better not make just a simple "talking game" and allow you to write on a certain notebook... I mean, this series... on a console with a touch screen... it'd be criminal! to not include that...

Needs a wi-fi mode where one player is randomly chosen as the Death Note user and everyone else tries to figure out who it is before they all get offed.
Also needs a limited edition Death Note-style DS Lite to go along with it.

As for the "extreme hype", not really... I expect it to be an uncomprehensible bunch of text with some pretty illustrations. I was just really surprised, because given the geeky/otaku pages I check daily (this one included, 'fcourse) to learn of this game's existance so late... I mean, I haven't read any rumor, any announcement and suddenly I have not only that but screenshots already... it was a pleasant surprise. That's why the "?!" in the title ^_^
