Nikkei IT: Osaka- Major Game Companies Lose in Battle against Used Games
(Nikkei IT) 3/29- The Osaka court today ruled out the suit filed by 6 major companies against stores selling used games. The suit -filed by Capcom, Konami, Square, Namco, SCEI and Sega, claimed that sales of used game software without permission of the maker invades copyrights. However, the Osaka court turned down the claim, concluding that the right to ownership of a game software (as a product) belongs to the user, and the company no longer has the right to that copy of the software once it is sold. Following the court ruling in Tokyo, this makes the second loss this month for companies acting agaisnt used games. An appeal to a higher court is scheduled by the game companies.

Bloomberg: Bringing 1,000 Samurai to Game Fans Gives Capcom Cost Headaches
"Osaka, March 29 (Bloomberg) -- It didn't take Keiji Inafune long to run over budget as he tried to make a sword-fight video game as compelling as a samurai epic. The super-fast computer chips of Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 2 allowed the 35-year-old head of development at Capcom Co. to let his imagination run wild. And it did. ...He ended up spending 1 billion yen ($8 million) on Onimusha, a sixth of Capcom's estimated group net income this year. That's about ten times the budgets of games for Sony's original PlayStation or Nintendo Co.'s Nintendo 64, analysts say. His 30-member team had a difficult time finding a computer graphic company that could make 1,000 samurai soldiers move smoothly simultaneously. Many companies just said no."
