Tekken to become Hollywood Action Movie (Hollywood Reporter)

(The Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles, Quoted) --- " Following the global success of "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," Crystal Sky has nabbed the rights to make a $60 million film version of "Tekken," one of the most successful video game franchises in the world, in association with Japan's Gaga Communications and the game's maker, Namco.

The rights were acquired from Namco after a fierce bidding war, according to Crystal Sky president and CEO Steven Paul at the American Film Market.

"Tetsu Fujimura, CEO of Gaga, and I have wanted to make a big commercial movie together for a long time," Paul said. "I have had a long and wonderful relationship with (him) and Masaya Nakamura, chairman of Namco, for over 12 years now. The time was right, and 'Tekken' was the perfect game to pursue our dreams together."

"Tekken" is a hugely popular fighting-style game played on arcade machines, platforms and PCs. To date, it has sold more than 18 million units worldwide." "

Playmore to Re-release Garou MOTW and Last Blade 2 on DC as "SNK Best Buy"

Revealed by Sega's upcoming DreamCast software line-up list, SNK copyright inheritor Playmore will be re-releasing "Garou -Mark of The Wolves" and "Bakumatsu Roman Dai-ni Maku - Gekka No Kenshi Final Edition" (Last Blade 2 Final Edition) on the DreamCast, as a new line-up to the "SNK Best Buy" series.

While "Last Blade 2 -Final Edition' was formerly in schedule to be re-released as a "SNK Best Buy" in 11/12/01, SNK's bankruptcy resulted to its cancellation. Other titles released as a "SNK Best buy" the the past include KOF99 Revolution.

Garow -MOTW and Last Blade2 Final Edition, will be re-released on the Sega DreamCast in 5/23, under the new price of 2800 Yen.



Updated: XBox Japanese controllers confirmed to work with US software (NCSX)

Updated News: (NCSX.net, Quoted) "Japanese X-Box joypads are confirmed by our Japanese suppliers to work on USA X-Box consoles and software. Tested were USA Halo, Project Gotham Racing, Dead or Alive 3, and Mad Dash. It's fairly certain that everything else works. Thanks to everyone in X-Box development and others who wrote in yesterday and today offering their own experiences. "

(NCSX.net, Quoted) "* Addendum at 02:28PM EST * A lot of e-mails have poured in from other sources and developers these past few hours. A call from an Microsoft employee also came in. The Japanese X-Box joypad should work with USA consoles. We'll confirm this tonight once our suppliers test the joypad with some USA games we shipped them earlier this week."

Japanese controllers won't work with USA X-Box software. This policy apparently extends from joypads to future joysticks from the usual suspects such as ASCII and Hori."
