Third Strike. Seems solid enough. Probably the only fighting game that has my blood pumping in every match.

i would go for this SNK fighter more than Third Strike. not because i EARNED 9 wins in a row (with Jae Hoon) against some better Japanese players but the fact of not seeing MULTIPLE Shoto heavy characters.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned KOF98. Given the choices, I know I will always play KOF98. Garou is good, and so is GGXX (I haven't played Reload yet).

SF3 Third Strike's my favorite fighter of all time. And I cherish my beautiful PS2 version in SF AC...

And why is KOF 98 on the Poll over any other KOFs? What about 97 that had OROCHI THE MOST STORYLINE WISE POWERFUL FIGHTING GAME BOSS EVER? How about 2000 with the kick Ass Strikers? I guess people really like Rugal and the American Team, LOL!

Well, at the least SS0S and KOF 2002 most definitely deserve to be up there. Do I really need to list the reasons why?

As for RB2 and DS, they may not be as widely popular but they are still balanced to the teeth from what I hear. (haven't played them much)

I wasn't going for my favorites. But I think you knew that already. =P

A month ago, I would have said GGXX, but now I've had a 3rd Strike revival that has convinced me that it's the best ever.

I didn't think Mark of the Wolves was that great...not better than Last Blade 2, to me. KOF 98 is indeed great, butI can't go back to it like 3rd Strike.

But Iggy is quite right about Vampire Savior. All of Capcom's "3's" are quite excellent.

I don't think I'm gonna vote, but I'd probably go with GGXX. It's one of the only fighting games I've encountered where basically any character can be picked up and one can kick some ass as him/her with a little practice. Everyone's pretty well-balanced, not that I ever really concern myself with tiers and all that bull-malarkey in the first place. That and it has some of my favorite designs ever.

Funny thing about Capcom's third games...the opposite is usually true of SNK. The third game in the series is generally considered to be the worst in most cases.

KO94 is worse than 96. Or, if you´re talking arcs... KOF95 is worse than 97. KOF99 is worse than 2001 (even if 2001 has the worst graphics and sound).

FF3 is better than FF1 and 2. Or... FFS is better than FF1 and 2.

AOF... All lame.

This is certainly true, but you have to consider when each game came out, too. Sure, today, I'd rather play FF3 than FF1, but when it came out, it wasn't as exciting as when FF1 came out. Same goes with KOF 96 vs 94. It's not right to say "worst in the series", but maybe something like "biggest disappointment"?

And we've forgotten Samurai Spirits 3 which is widely held as quite terrible, although...again, I'd rather play it than SS1.

You, sinners who do not vote for SFA3!

3S is not bad at all, what with a bunch of interesting characters that finally feel complete (as opposed to the previous SF3 games...), but after playing it for awhile, I stop playing it... because I get bored of it? I don't doubt that it's a good game, but I don't know of any top notch fighter that loses its taste during a session the way 3S does.

SFA3 has really got everything. Characters that are well-made and interesting to play (the rethink of Cody is fabulous), a fast and fluid feel (air recovery + loose juggles = fun for all), good presentation, good music, hilarious little touches (Dan's win quotes! Cody saying how good it is to have more than two moves! Guy + Cody intro! Cody punch super! etc.), SFA3 is one of the best representatives of the Capcom that WAS. It's like comparing the SNK that made SvC:MotM to the one that made KOF2k2; where'd that scintillating brilliance go?

All of those games are good, but SFA3 is the one that really clicks with me.

I'd say it's a tie between GGXX#R and SFIII:TS, but if I have to vote (and i'm going to), I'm slightly inclined to Third Strike. Maybe because it's amazing to see how complex and balanced a game can be with so little features. I admire GGXX#R also, but as someone with a scientific mentality I think that "among two correct solutions, the simpler is the better".

I had to go with Alpha 3 on this one. I've never loved a fighting game quite the way I love this one. I love almost all of the music, the backgrounds...it had the biggest cast of all the SF games with only one characters I don't like, I love the pop-ups on fierce/roundhouse/special move counters, there was a great amount of story and character interaction...and then there's the little things, like Mika's great, gorgeous BUTTOCKS, the pre-fight intros with certain characters (Rose-Bison, Ryu-Evil Ryu, Evil Ryu-Akuma, Gen-Akuma, Zangief-Mika, Guile-Charlie, etc, etc, etc), the awesome announcer (tied with CvS2, Tekken Tag/T4, and the Soul Edge/Calibur games as my favorite announcer), and the way the title screen has different animations every time it comes up if you let the game run.

I like the other games on the list (with the only exception being KoF '98...don't like that too much), but Vampire Savior really needs to be on this list. It comes really, really close second to SFA3 as my favorite fighting game.

Oh, you're not missing that much, it's just about Noh Agents acting like a stupid attention whore with his constant (i.e. at every post he makes) "ooohh, everyone look at my new avatar, it's got titties".

then don't read my post, dummy.

That "Don't read my posts if you don't like them" logic is retarded, and you know it.
I have a better idea, quit being an attention whore and everyone will be happy again.

we are both shifted the focus of the poll to some titties. and this would go on but let's not.

i think that Third Strike is winning this poll. what do you think?

Samurai Shodown IV.
from the games listed in the poll i don't really know which one to choose...they're differ in a lot of ways...i've had most fun with 3rd strike and KOF 98 though..(on two player mode)

I like most of the ones in the poll a lot, but they're not my all-time favorites. I guess there should have been an "other- please specify" option.

Unless it was a "best of this list" poll, of course.

I still don't understand why you like SSOS so much....

Well, maybe it's because it's just a great game....
Well, from the list I'd go for Zero 3; at first I hate it but when I got to play around with it at home I kinda liked it, specially because on the last past years I have been playing SF2 like crazy...
Garou was fun, but it just lacked something.... And the fact that there it was an 'almost' universal motion for the DMs didn't help (motion that I don't like by the way).
Savior is a .g.r.e.a.t. game, but I didn't get the chance to truly play it, even tough my Jedah and my Bishomon where feared...
And I must say that SS0 has been the most fun and the best battles I have ever had in a 2-D game, so I'm looking foward to meeting 0SP.

And, to make things short it's hard to choose a 'best game' without resorting to our own tastes... It's hard to draw a line on 'what's best' and 'what's my favourite'.

I voted for 3s. If it were a ranking thing, for me, it'd probably go: 3s, KOF98, A3, Garou, GGX#R

I've never been a huge fan of GG, but I think it's because it's too spazzy for me to play decently (ditto MvC2, but I actually hate that game). I like the character designs, I just can't play it for crap (it doesn't help that the arcade here put GGX in a Mortal Kombat cabinet, and the button layout is screwed up...)

Therefore, I like Asuka 120% FINAL and EFZ more than GG, if only because I can Aerial Rave better in those games... ^^;

I probably said this already but a lot of 98 fans have moved on to 2K2. And the list is incomplete for other reasons too but it's still a great list.

guilty gear is indeed the most respectable direction fighters have taken since X came out, I think. I don't really get how people go "oh man kof is boring, i hope this next one is...less boring" every year. i mean i guess i sorta do too, but it's not really an invested interest as much as the weird way i dig appreciation out of stuff.

In the end, most of this stuff is truly unacceptable though. I guess with an opponent a lot of things are okay by me though
