For the Xbox side, which does the same territorial lockouts PS2 does...

Honestly for me, anything that comes out for the Xbox of real value, also comes out for PS2, with just a few exceptions off the top of my head. Like Halo, Ninja Gaiden, & Star Wars KOTOR. In the future it will obviously be the likes of Doom 3, Half Life 2, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and Halo 2.

For me, the appeal of the Xbox has always been online play. The Rainbow Six series is okay for single player, but is the tops online, just like Mechassault or Project Gotham Racing 2.

For me on the PS2 would be:

Front Mission 3
WWE Smackdown
Mark of Kri
NBA Street Vol 2
Burnout 3 ( Killing the demo right now )

This one's not even close. In just about every category that I actually care about, the PS2 completely blows away the X-Box. Game variety, peripherals, overall cost, you name it.

I never thought I'd say this, but it's undeniable; the PS2 is better than the Dreamcast. It's noticably more powerful (even if you don't always see it in the graphics), it's more reliable, and its peripherals are better designed. And this is from someone who's been playing Dreamcast games for almost five years and wouldn't give them up for anything.

Recommended buys:
- Anything under the "Bemani" label
- Capcom vs. SNK 2
- CART Fury
- Swing Away Golf
- Street Fighter EX 3

Rent at least; buy if you love it:
- Any of the light gun games
- Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil
- Fight Night 2005
- WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain
- Tekken Tag Tournament
- Tekken 4
- Soul Calibur 2
- Sega Sports Tennis
- Any other tennis game
- Ready 2 Rumble Round 2

The X-Box is a good choice only if you're really into online gaming or don't want to spend a lot of money (since there aren't that many peripherals available).

Well both systems have their pros and cons.

PS2-

Pros
-More Japanese support
-Online Play doesn't need a subscription like X-live
-System of choice for most of the "big" developers like Squaresoft.
-Backwards compatible, PS3 will also be able to play your PS2 games.
-more variety in titles... and overall more "hit" games than X-box

Cons
-breaks easily
-if you modchip it, kiss online play goodbye
-Hard Drive has to be bought seperately
-not as many online titles
-Sony USA has weird policies that keeps some games like SVC Chaos coming out here.

Xbox-

Pros
-superior online play
-better graphics
-exclusive titles from companies like Tecmo and Rare
-doesn't break as easily
-extra processing power and an upgraded hard-drive makes it into an instant "emulation machine" It can emulate tons of classic games at full speeds.
-lots of fighting games with online play
-online upgrades for games

Cons
-Lack of support from Japanese companies
-LOTS of poorly made US games
-X-box 2 will not be compatible with X-box games
-often "second in line" with new multi-platform titles
-Too big, takes up a LOT of space.

Most importantly it's the games... just go to ign and look through the libraries and see which console has the games you want.

I think...this is actually for Xbox. I know plenty of people with modded PS2s that have played online.

Well both systems you can play copies online... it's just more of a hastle on PS2. If it's any game after 2002, it has DNAS, which means you have to do this long process of DNAS patching your iso to play online... screw up and you're likely to have your system banned. Also on PS2 if you're playing a US game on a chipped UK system, you won't be able to play online at all.

Oh OH! I wasn't talking about COPIES. Those are dirty. I was just saying if you have a PS2 chipped to play imports, it doesn't effect online play. However, I heard that with Xbox they KNOW. (scarrryyyyyy)

I think you'd got to be pretty gutsy to try and play a copied online game.

What kind of games do you like, Oroch?

I would recommend Xbox for american pc style games (like fps) and sports games.

PS2 for Japanese RPGs, action/hack n slash games, and the overall bigger selection.

Then on PS2, definitely Katamary Damacy. This is one of the 2 best games of the system (the other needing you to be fluent in japanese).
A recent good RPG would be Shin Megami Tensei 3, who is coming I think in english... at some point in the future ?
