Caught this article this morning, basically saying that Nintendo owns the patents for a console and online networking system similar to the Xbox and Xbox live... and that it's backdated to 1999!

I'm not sure what ramifications this will have, or what legal issues this may bring. Still, it's very interesting.

I'm fairly sure that this will be about as effective as that company that tried to copyright linking to other webpages. It's going to be hard for Nintendo to defend a patent for something someone else has already made profitable when their own online support is minimal at best.

If that's the same patent as this one, it wasn't just similar to XBox Live, it aimed to be something like Sony's everything-and-the-kitchen-sink PSX: "It would be capable of receiving cable or broadcast TV signals and displaying those at the same time as a game, 'providing a unique picture-in-picture video capability.'" That would've been cool.

The whole online/multipurpose consle thing.... tt's almost a polar opposite of the Nintendo of today...

Incidentally I have a mobile phone photo blog thing.
