Since SDCC is starting today and toy news sites will be a lot new pictures of cool new toys by late tonight/early tomorrow , and since the last toy thread fell onto page 2 I thought I'd start a new one...

There's going be lots of neat stuff to see including:
-the revamped Batman toy line (now calling it's self "Classic Batmans") taking more inspiration for Marvel Legends then Hasbro's old Batman toys
-Two new Marvel Legends box sets (one with 4 characters, the other with 9... give or take, that's just the rumored amount for now)... I'm sure we'll also see new pictures of ML 7 and 8, possibly get an explanation on the new bases too
-SOTA's SF series 1 figures in US packaging and very likely series 2 prototypes with some corrections made.

so now we play the waiting game...

yeah it's not funny but the naked chick tag was getting annoying.

Actually, last I heard, the SF Series 2 figures that will be shown at the con will be the same prototypes we're already seen. Still looking forward to it though, as we're most likely going to see more new pictures, and hear impressions from people. Not to mention interesting announcements. :)

What do you think about the new "Super articulated Batman"? he sure doesn't look that Super articulated to me... http://www.action-figure.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=12316

And what about those new boxed sets? I haven't heard any news about them, which character will be featured? perhaps an Avengers set?

He doesn't look "super articulated" because Toy Biz had to go and redefine what "super articulated" meant... it no longer means 20+ joints, ML has caused it to mean 40+...

Even if he's not Super Articulated in the Marvel Lengends sense, I rather like him, I mean Spider-man NEEDS 50+ points of articulation, he's always flipping and flying around... but Batman is rather stoic, so 26 is plenty for him so long as it's useful... so long as I can pose his arms and get him to crouch (on a movie Spider-man's Gargoyle!) he's fine by me

no one knows yet, I'm guessing the 9 (also rumored to be 7+2 sidekicks) set is either an X-Men set with the Brotherhood being a major part of it or a new Spider-man set since it's supposed to have 4 'brand new' villians... I've got no clue who will be in the 4 figure set (I hope it's not an Avengers set... since that would mean it's probably just Cap'N America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor.)

Action-Figure.com has some new shots of SOTA's SF figures.
I'm quite surprised to see that some (if not all) of the series one figures (Ryu, Chun-Li, Sagat, Vega(dictator) and Sodom) have gotten touch-ups since last they were shown. Chun-Li's headsculpt which up until now had been a little so-so, now looks great, IMO. Ryu however still looks a little questionable after at least 3 revisions... Not completely awful like the first head shown, but still not perfect.
The series 2 figures are indeed the same that have been shown earlier, so there's not really too much to say about them...

I hope the four figure Marvel Legends set is the Fantastic Four (adding an Invisible Girl/Woman figure of course). That'd be nice. I'd have to buy it.

I've got good news and bad news for you, Wolf:

the bad:
the new four figure set is NOT the Fantastic Four

the good:
check your local comic/toy stores... there's already a Fantastic Four box set coming out VERY soon (which actually is a 5 figure set, since they included Doom, with bonus Franklin and H.E.R.B.I.E. sidekicks)... and keep your eyes peeled because there's TWO versions of the set... one with Johnny's flames being solid color and Sue unpowered, the other with Johnny's flames slightly transparent and clear plastic Sue.

Scorpion's not new, he's going to be in the next Spider-man Classics wave (well next were I live, I just spotted an Ultimate Lizard) but it's nice to see him

I bet Dr.Strange's inclusions means we're going to see a Defenders box set! (since there's a lot of nice Hulks, they could make a trunks Namor, and... is Silver Surfer a defender? they could slap him in there too)... or maybe not... I bet Sandman is one of the four exclusive villians! QUICK! does Sandman have like a pose or a team he hangs with? maybe that'll shed light on the others... or maybe they're both in ML9, we may never know!

I hope Storm's got swapable heads, the mowhawk is nice but not the hair style I want for my figure (If she doesn't have changable heads, oh well... I've got a spare X-Evo Storm around here somewhere, I'll just steal her's!)

I'm glad to see Black Widow uses the new hips (unliked the Black Cat figure) and both of the new Ghost Riders look fantastic!

Dr.Strang is part of ML9 and Sandman is for the wave of Spider-man Classics after Scorpion:

Dr.Strange pictures (that's one fine cape he's got... if he's got the Daredevil body I'll buy like 7 of him, then make a bunch of Azraels to sell on eBay! with a bulid cost of just $15 you can't go wrong with that!)

Scorpion/Sandman pictures

and some more ML 7 and 8 pictures

it says "Storm variant" will be a figure, so I guess one can choose which hairstyle they'd like Storm to have, nice!

That Chun-Li DOES look better. It used to look like what Cammy's head looks like right now.

What are those pegs that are sticking out of their limbs? Is it for articulation?

Check that link again! there's a 3rd page now with pictures of the Modern Iron Man and Ultimate Cap'n America 2-ups we've seen before, as well as 2-ups for Bullseye (comic costume, which is too bad, I think a Collin Farrel one would be more fun) and Black Panther.

Bullseye looks like he'll use the Daredevil body... but Black Panther 'looks' like a new body with a wrinkly suit though. FUN!

Damn, looks like Toy Biz is doing the impossible possible, I mean, when you think they can't get any better, they slam you in the face with even better offerings.
Ultimate Cap, Bullseye, Modern Ironman, Scorpion, Black Panther... they all look great, and with the new adition of four comics per figure, a (most of the time) good base, great articulation and superb sculpt, they're becoming the best toy company (at least for me).

My problems with the ML line are the reusage (which I'll forgive since giving DD and Spidey new heads/paint jobs every wave gives us two extra figures with no addtional cost past on to consumers, even if does look a bit funny sometimes) and that although I know who they are I never followed Marvel comics closely enough to really know much about them, so I don't get as excited as some when certain figures are announced.

that being said, ML/Spider-man classics are diffenantly the best handled mass market toy lines right now. (I'd like to think when the Mattel Batman line relaunches next year with more articulation and bases it'll someone match Spider-man classics in terms of selection and quality, but even if it does licensing fees will keep it a buck or two pricier then ML, so Toy-Biz will still win over all!)

Clerks figures

YAY! Lots of new Clerks figures (as designed by the Stephen Silver!) originally I was sad because only the four diamond stealing girls were annouced for the J&SBSB wave, but it turns out Whilenholy, Bluntman, AND Chronic are also planned! so it's all good (except there needs to be a monkey!)... I guess God and Meatron are canceled or something (or delayed until they get to Dogman wave 2 or something, point is they're not out yet -__-)

New DC Direct stuff

YAY! Finally a Cassie Cain figure (I wasn't aware 'First Appearences' would be including modern era figures, I thought give the retro packaging and all it would only be Golden/Silver age designs... but I'm not complaining, maybe they'll work Micheal Turner's Supergirl or Spoiler Robin into a future wave, that'd be cool)

Although, the DC Direct figure I'm looking forward to the most is HUSH Alfred from Wave 3!

"Who wants cheapily made SF figures?!?!" , posted Mon 2 Aug 13:06post reply

http://www.jazwares.com /

Jazwares is releasing mass market versions of the SOTA SF sculpts. They're supposed to be simplified/cheaper versions for kids, so that could mean lose of articulation (or just that that they don't have nice paint ops or are cheaper plastic or something... they very likely don't have all the interchangable parts)

Series one of the Jazwares set has a vast varitiy in play styles and sculpts represented:
-Ryu (series 1 sculpt)
-Ken (series 1 ryu, with new head and red clothes)
-Akuma (series 1 ryu, with new head... sculpted by SOTA but it was made for Jazwares, so it might not be the head we see on the SOTA Akuma... and purple clothes)

Maybe if we're lucky they'll be like $7-8 or so, so custom fodder for making your own Orochi Ken or Shadow Lady (sure Chun-Li isn't announced yet, but theyse got her pitcha up there!) would be much cheaper then using real SOTA figures... or maybe they'll reduce the articulation down to a more Resaurus style level for those who don't like insanely articulated figures, maybe they'll even change the scale so we can fill out shelves of Resaurus figures with ones from the SOTA line!!!... or maybe they'll just suck! we may never know until they come out!

They look kinda "boxy" to me... I like the Megaman NT figures from Mattel a lot better, they're not as big have more fluid looking designs.

I wish I did, I've been thinking about getting one myself -___- (although, if you want the figure without the display base, one of the Predators and both of the Aliens in the current "Alien and Predator" line up of figures uses the bodies from the box set as their own.)

from what is being said in the Action-Figure.com message board apparently SOTA IS going to be doing voting for series 3

the voting is supposed to be between:
Catagory 1
-Guile

Catagory 2
-Sakura
-Ibuki
-Mika

Catagory 3
-Rolento
-Dee Jay
-Adon

Catagory 4
-Birdie
-Hugo
-Adon

Catagory 5
-Gen
-Oro
-Guy

Darkstalkers Catagory (which might just be for fun or maybe, like Palisades plan to do, DS characters are going to become part of the SF line)
-Lord Raptor
-Jon Talbain
-Demitri

also worth nothing:
you probably won't be seeing Akuma, Zangief, or Fei Long in the polls for any future series as they're all strong contenders for the headliner for a wave.

I was thinking something similar: "Ohmygod, they're actually considering the possibility of giving me my Gen figure?!? Oh, wait -- he's up against Guy. He hasn't got a fucking chance." At least this time, we've only got 2 characters from the SFII series to skew the voting.

Balrog - I voted for him last time, I'm voting for him again. He's Mike Tyson! Anyone that says, "I got paid!" as a win quote is OK with me!

Guy - My second favortie SF Ninja next to the Spaniard!

Demitri - He's Demitri! And Sota better learn how to spell his name right. It's not spelled "Dimitri!" gosh darn it all to heck!

Adon: because Adon is the most badass of the 3 (I hope SOTA doesn't think Dee Jay is a villian... I can't imagine why he's up againist those two unless SOTA thinks he is though)

Birdie: I like all 3 of these characters, but Birdie is the most visually interesting one in my view

Gen: He was the best of the 3 if you ask me

Talbain: This was a toughy for me >_< I don't care much for any of these DS characters (more of a Bulleta fan myself)but my best friend really likes Jon Talbain... unfortunately so does that wasted life Stefan clone... so I faced a huge moral delema; voting for JT so my friend could get a nice new larger scale JT figure would mean the one I hate more then life itself would get both characters he has an unhealthy fixation for in 2 waves and we'd be forced to endure post like "LOL! I picked the same characters Baghead, except no Talbain. I'd choose Demitri instead. I think those 4 had the better designs in comparison to their competitors. Now I invite others to think of cool extras to include with the figures.

For Ibuki, she could have her pet squirrel or an energy ball a la her super. Of course she will have a kuni dagger.

I can't think of a cool extra for Adon though. Hrm.

Birdie. The chain of course. And maybe his little knife.

Gen. I can't think of anything cool for Gen. Demitri could have his fireball and maybe an alternate 'true' head. Oh and an extra pair of flaming hands too.

Guile could have a pair of dogtags. I would have preferred Charlie over Guile but well, Guile is SF2 original!

Slightly on a tangent, the extras in the SDCC exclusive were okay. The Bison "flame cup" is pretty cool, because you can easily recreate Bison's boss intro from SFA3 were he falls from the sky, surrounded by flames around his feet. I'm sure that's where they got that idea. Evil Ryu didn't get any extras but his hands are translucent purple and his left hand has energy sparkles coming out of it. Which is kinda cool I guess. I woulda preferred that he have a purple fireball. I think he does have the appropriate kanji written on his back though. Its certainly not Akuma's 'ten' symbol. It probably is the kanji you see on his back at the end of SFA3 when you beat the game with evil ryu. good job SOTA!

The figures are superbly articulated but its still very hard (or impossible) to put them in traditional 'special move' poses. Bison simply can't do a true psycho crusher torpedo pose because of his blasted shoulder pads.

Did you get the figures at SDCC directly or order them online? I just wanna know because Psycho Bison looks really cool(is is flame cup raised so it looks like he is hovering?) If you bought them online do you know a place where they are below $75? or if there is talk that they will eventually release them on the market for a slightly higher price than the regular figures?

NOOO! You would think they would sculpt the things with all the characters special moves in mind.

Also do you have any Marvel Legends figures? And if so how do they comapre? SOTA's website says that they were made so they would blend in.

Copy/pasted from my post at action-figure.com:

---

My vote would look like this:

2 - Really tough choice. I really like both Ibuki and Mika, and I'm pretty sure Sakura doesn't need my support to get a good placement in this vote. Besides, she's probably popular enough to be a headliner... Anyway, in the end I'd probably go with Ibuki, to get a decent balance between SF3 and Alpha characters.

3 - As much as I love Dee Jay, I think the SF2 characters should take a backseat to the Alpha and 3 characters, or later series might risk being overpopulated with obscure and/or unpopular characters. My vote goes to Adon, a cool SF character who's been quite underappreciated, IMO.

4 - Hugo, definitely. He's one of my favourite SF characters, and I'd love to have a cool looking Hugo fig. IMO, his competition makes the choice even easier; I've never been a huge fan of either Birdie or Mike Bison.

5 - With Ibuki and Hugo both in "my" lineup, there's really no need for more SF3 characters. And with the choice between Guy and Gen, I think the situation is similar to Category 2 - Guy seems very popular to me, and could probably be a headliner... but on the other hand, with my lineup, Guile would pretty much be the only "A-list" character, so I guess Guy could be in series 3 without it feeling too crowded with popular characters. I like both sneaker wearing ninjas, and old kung-fu geezers, so IMO it's a toss-up between Guy and Gen.

6 - Gah, why do they have to pit the characters I like the most against eachother? My vote would probably go to Talbain though... always did have something of a soft spot for him. It'd be cool to see what SOTA would come up with for his leg articulation.

As usual though, I'm probably going more or less completely against the norm, so I don't expect the lineup to be anything like what I'll vote for. :P

Here's what I predict series 3 will actually end up being:
Guile
Sakura
Dee Jay
Balrog
Guy
Talbain

2 SF2 and 3 Alpha guys-- better balance than in series 1 or 2, but I'm still not gonna be completely satisfied until I get some SF3 characters! ^_~

---

In the end, after much contemplating, I voted for Guy. Also, interestingly enough, if what the people at a-f.com say they vote for is anything to go by, I'm not so sure about the final lineup... I mean, for series 2, pretty much EVERYONE voted for what became the final lineup, but this time around there's been ALOT more diversity... I've seen plenty of people voting for Ibuki, Birdie, Gen, and even Oro! I honestly think Ibuki and Birdie actually have chances (if slim) to be included. I don't have high hopes for Hugo, though... :/

And as for the DS slot, at this point it seems it could go to either Demitri or Talbain... I'm happy regardless of who wins, though.

GekigangerV,

No, I got my figures at SDCC. I think you can buy them online at SOTA though. Wait, I checked http://www.sotatoys.com/ and they appear to be sold out. Check ebay. I sold an extra set of figures on ebay and they went for about $5 or $10 more then if you had bought them at the convention.

SOTA will be releasing an Evil Ryu as a SOTA online store exclusive. But the Evil Ryu won't have the sparkly hands. The sparkly purple hadou hands and the translucent purple 'psycho' Bison are strictly SDCC exclusives. I think the SOTA online store Evil Ryu might even have a different colored gi. The gi on my Evil Ryu is dark grey/charcoal.

And yes, the flames are raised. There is a little stand. Its like a clear platform that holds up the flames with a clear tube. Then you just stand Bison inside the flames. I fricken lost my clear tube so I can't use the stand anymore! It is awesome though!

And yeah, the figures are pretty poseable but its real hard to put them in traditional special move poses. I can do a semi-haouken pose with Ryu. Bison can sorta do a head stomp and scissor kick and a semi-psycho crusher. If I have time, I'll put up a photo gallery.

I'm really happy with the figures. Minor flaws. But happy. Especially the Bison figure. Woo hoo! The E. Ryu figure has a large 'joker' style smile that I don't like. But still. great figures. Great job SOTA.

And I don't own any ML figures and don't plan on getting any. I think they would be in scale to them. Probably. Ryu might look shrimpy against most ML guys though. But that would be correct anyway.

SOTA will apparently receive another shipment of SDCC 2-packs some time in September I think... I'm not sure if all those will go to people who've already ordered them, or if they'll be available for order again, though.

Also, $75 sounds like an insane prize. It was $35 at SDCC, and on SOTA's site, and I've seen a couple on eBay going for $35-50... You really shouldn't have to pay more than that.

Oh, and THIS ought to answer your question about the scale.

That's Asuka/Amber from the game Crimson Tears. It's a strange game in that I enjoy it while I'm playing it but I seem to forget about it the moment I put it down.

...so if you haven't voted for series 3 yet do it now.

Also since I got a hold of an SDCC two-pack (thanks again, Gen) I thought I'd share my thoughts on the direction SOTA is taking

Pros:
-the sculpts are better then most Marvel Legends and DC Direct figures (not saying ML or DCD are bad, but some ML figures do feel slightly "generic" because of reuse and DCD figures feel kind of stiff since they're sculpted to be 'heroic' and not very articulated... right now these don't, well see though if after we get Ryu, Ken, Dan, Akuma, and Sean if the generic factor doesn't set in)
-mid-foot twist joint allows ML style feet but with enough support for one leg poses
-joints over all seem tighter then ML figures
-use of soft vinyl parts very well done, it blends in very well with the plastic parts

Cons:
-paint on Ryu is, to be polite, total shit (maybe mine just has problems but his top is kinda tacky... I feel like I'm going to rub his symbol off if I touch him, he was had a few 'bald' spots, and worse of all his ball joint shoulders ARE STRIPPING OFF HIS PAINT I'd expect that if he was a custom figure, but even my crappy Harley Quinn Polno has ball-joint shoulders that don't chip her paint and I suck at customizing!) for now this is excusable since the figure had to be done 2 months before the real line, but if not corrected such a problem will be inexcusable
-Ryu's arms are soft plastic and his right one snapped off (the bicept joint got locked, I tried to twist it loose assuming it was like an ML figure and they just need to be broken in and it snapped... I fixed it though) hopefully this is one of the issues that'll be fix in the extra month they've got to work on wave 1
-Bison lacks real posablity because of his bulk and shoulder pads (this will probably be an issue with other characters down the road)
-I don't like Evil Ryu's hands being blue (but that's personal)
-soft vinyl isn't as giving as you'd think and sometimes pushes a character out of a pose because it doesn't want to stay posed
-some people may be turned off by the fact it lacks a lot of standard ML joints (various arm pit joints, double elbows, mid shin cuts, among others) and the mid-foot cuts instead of a true Legends style ankle (which was done for balance at the cost of astetics)
-I don't care much for Psycho Bison... clear figures don't do much for me. (I plan to give regular Bison his flame cup and put Psycho back in on the card)

So over all the figures look like a step in the right direction but if the problems aren't correct by at least wave 2 they aren't worth the money or time to collect.

So, are these released yet or are the ones on Ebay just prerelease versions (with the faults already mentioned)? I haven't been paying attention this summer (spending all my cash on PS2 imports and Transformers) so I don't want to miss them.

They have been pushed back to September.

I am pretty sure it would be too late to fix some of the pose problems mentioned previously, although I wish they could for Bison.

Although the voting isn't finished yet action-figure.com has given an update of the current count. Link Here

Sakura is leading, but Ibuki is right behind her and it mentions Mika had a good day.

While Adon has the lead, its seems to be a pretty close race between.

Balrog is apparently kicking all sorts of ass. Oh well atleast now all four boss characters from SF2 will be available early.

Guy without a doubt.

In the Darkstalkers catagory Dimitri is in the lead, but Talbain is just 30 votes behind.

"As we thought, Dimitri Maximov is leading..but don't whine yet! 30 votes behind him is Jon Talbain! Unfortunately, it looks like back to the grave for Raptor."

I hope this is just an example of the public relations folks not being nearly as annoyingly anal as the two of us (like when Gouki's "ten" kanji was used in the mockup photos of Satsui no Hadou Ryu, instead of his "metsu" kanji), and that it'll all come out correct in the editing wash (like the proper kanji ultimately being assigned to the SnH Ryu figure).

Although I'm probably going to be sticking with SOTA's line for the SF characters (that is unless they all start breaking on me and have horrid paint jobs), I must agree High Dream's Ryu and Ken do look awesome indeed.

I can't wait for their SNK characters to come out, those should be terrific (and I'll probably be getting their M.Bison too so I can have one who's actually poseible)

crazy side note:

The Gen Cult stepped in and helped out. I'm happy with the choices. I am very happy that Gen got in. Its too bad that Ibuki didn't but Sakura is... Sakura, so its not like we got a bad character either. Irregardless I'm happy. Well, I don't really care much for Balrog, but he's not such a bad design either. Hopefully Birdie will make it in Series 4.
