quote: Yarg... I'm sorry, but I don't like Tartakovsky's action stuff. He did a great job with Dexter's Lab (one of my all-time favorite series, until they made those new ones), but Samurai Jack is just Tartakovsky in "trying too hard" mode. I'm not talking about the art style. That part's not that bad. But the poses and action and all of that is just... I don't know... just cheesy and over-dramatic in a bad way. I wish he would have just stuck with comedy... he was great with that.
So, this Astro Boy movie has me a bit worried.
I agree as well. I liked DL back in the day (haven't been able to watch it lately) but the only episodes of SJ I've ever honestly enjoyed were the Jack in Wonderland episode (lots of weird stuff there, and a centipede reference) and the first few with the Scotsman.
One episode that got me thinking "WTF was that? You've taken this the wrong direction." was when Jack was fighting some "monks" (I use that term loosely) and they kept flipping through the air, doing REALLY stiff spins (like, they were standing still yet flying through the air while spinning really fast) and it looked cheesey in a bad way.
Er, sorry about that rant. But yeah, I'm not too keen on all of these popular foreign shows getting made into movies by American studios. It's hard enough having any video game movie turn out even close to watchable, so now we've gotta go through it with anime as well? "Bah" I say. What's worse is that almost all of them are totally unrealistic and too styled to make work in a LA movie without them looking or feeling crappy.
