They might be using something different, but MAME/Kawaks/etc. + Kaillera can do the trick. Just start the emulator, bring up Kaillera, join a game, and when you're both ready, the ROM will load up on both machines and either player will be designated as Player 1 or Player 2. I used to play Mark of the Wolves for hours like that, but eventually it got annoying. Both players have to be using the same emulator to join a game and the Kaillera community could never really settle on one. One week it was Kawaks, then it was MAME32k, then it was a new version of Kawaks, then it was back to the old version of Kawaks... unless you're playing with friends, the bullshit-to-fun ratio can get very high.

I remember when Capcom USA was marketing the release of Puzzle Fighter for the PSX. They had a java game of Puzzle Fighter on their website. That was when I had my old computer and in the 'slow' 'old' days of the internet. I could just barely play the game and of course, it took a while for the game to load up (and you couldn't do anything else while you waited for it to load up).

Those were the good old days.

The only thing that can possibly match up the greatness of the mid/late nineties is the release of an Zero/Alpha collection on the Xbox with online abilities. Thank God for the SF Collection we're getting and the SNK ports. Its not the same, but it'll bring back some of the old hype from our youth.

end, fogey rant of the old days.

Some may say that it was luck that helped me to advance, but that doesn't matter to me, because the final line is... That I won, but I just better keep in mind, that luck works in many mysterious ways...

Too bad Kaillera doesn't have a 'spectator' mode where other persons can watch the match through their emulators. I think there was some talk of this, maybe it was too difficult to implement.

I say they both got drunk, never managed to make the emulators work, so they lied about them playing anyway to not look stupid.
That, or they both used Sakura, and are too ashamed to admit it.

When I played on Kaillera regularly, there was something where you could specify a number of players greater than the max number of players for a game -- and those extra players could watch. It could get laggy if there were too many players on slow connections -- but either way, the effect was almost like having a crowd around you while you play.

Oh man, Kaillera... memories of 6-player KOF 98 -- those were awesome. I was never any good because my controller's d-pad sucks like none other -- but it was still fun.

And I remember that Java Super Puzzle Fighter game! It was always set up as Ken vs Felicia in Chun Li's stage.

Damnit to hell. Anyone know if there are some settings on either the game, emulator or something common to monitors that would make the green and yellow blocks look more different? My yellow-green color blindness is crippling...

I don't have my ROMs any more, but if you press either F2 or F10 (one is MAME, one is Kawaks, I forget which is which) while the game is loading (after the ROM has loaded), you should enter service mode. I vaguely remember the CPS2 service mode having an option for monitor color adjustment, but I'm not positive. Just try messing around in there for awhile.

As for emulator settings, all I can tell you is that Kawaks seems to have a much wider range of settings than any of the MAME versions I've used. If you leave the game on demo mode and keep switching the settings around, you might find one that works for you.
