quote: Um....exactly who said Big Boss wasn't in the game!?
Supposedly at least a part of the game takes place in the 1960'sIf anyone followed the story of Metal Gear Solid they would know that Snake, part of the "Terrible Children" project wasn't born until the 1970's.
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS TO THE RESCUE!
Exactly. Everyone has known since the start that the main character of MGS3 is Big Boss. The only thing that we have to speculate about is where the real twist will be. If this is, as someone involved with the game (I think Hideo Kojima himself, but I'm not positive) stated early on, "The End of the Metal Gear Solid Trilogy", then it can't be just a prequel. Solid Snake, Raiden, the Patriots, and all the rest have to factor into it somehow.
I'm guessing that the game will be broken up into two parts again, with part of it involving the scenario that we're seeing now and the rest of it involving the cast of MGS2. The part of the game that we're seeing is probably either a flashback, a simulation, or something similar, and at some point it will end and we'll be given control of Solid Snake again. I doubt that this will be a small portion of the game like the Tanker, though. I'm guessing that it will probably encompass a good 80% of the game, at least.

Yeah, I don't think anyone was thinking otherwise. That's a good point, though... this Big Boss part could be the whole game, or it could be as short as the tanker section, or half... who knows? I remember all the coverage of MGS2... all we ever saw was stuff from the tanker. Then *SURPRISE!* you get Raiden for like 75% of the game. So, there's no telling what's going to happen. Regardless, I'm still interested in the game.

Other than that, if the jungle game in the 60's only lasted half of the game, wouldn't the whole camouflage and hunt-for-food system wasted ?
Or maybe for however long you play as Big Boss and then if the game switches to Solid Snake, it may be a similar environment thus making use of the camo and hunting as a requirement still.
But Kojima guaranteed that 80% of the game would be (Big Boss's) outdoors part, didn't he? I know, of course, he could've perfectly lied, but I don't think that's the case. I mean, one thing is omitting any comment and showing only one part of the game so the second one would become "da big surprise", as they did with MGS2, and another very different one is explicitly lying to provoke this surprise. Doesn't sound right.
But who knows...
EDIT: Fixed quoting.
Oboromaru. Yup seems they're all "one-eyed" masked guys now. Just coincidence.

Kojima may have said the majority of the game would be outdoors but to my knowledge he didn't mention anything character specific, he's never done that...not even for MGS2. So yeah, MGS3 may very well be less than 80% jungle, that could have been an initial estimate...the final product may be less than 50% for all we know...damn Kojima, it's like he learned from the "Miyamoto University of keeping well hidden secrets about his games from the public." or something...
On a side note:
Like MGS2 I didn't assume too much about the story or what locations the game would take place...so again, I'm not setting myself up for the eventual endless wave of rants by fans insisting they have been beguiled by Kojima again because the demo videos of MGS3 differ from the final product.

As I've already posted, I bought the latest issue of PSM and part that I've read so far (the Devil May Cry article) was... somewhat non-accurate. But here's some new stuff from their Metal Gear Solid 3 article that may or may not be true:
- "There will be a massive, shocking twist just ten minutes into the game." Fucking yay. The only game developer smart enough to realize that you're not spoiling the whole damn thing if you make the trailer for a 10 to 15 hour long video game longer than the trailers for 1 1/2 to 2 hour long movies is also the only game developer that is completely and utterly fucking with us. - The cardboard box is back. You will use it during the military base sections of the game. You also receive the alligator head, which is not a real alligator head (it's a prop), in one of these military bases. - Thankfully, the backup system has been changed. There are now only a few guys who can call for backup and they're all wearing big, obvious radio equipment on their backs. This means that average players who aren't sniper gods can now stop the bad guys from calling for backup. Also, the way that they're balancing this out is by letting the radio-equipped soldiers call in cannon support to smoke your ass from a place far, far away. - There are "minor hidden advantages" to leaving Snake bare-chested. My guess is that it will be something funky and clever like the cigarettes in MGS1. - Different areas will have day, night, rain, fog, etc. weather effects, which should all affect the camo index. You're also completely invisible if you're not in an enemy's line of sight, such as being up in a tree or somewhere below him. Essentially, that's 100% camo index. - Your life bar will constantly regenerate, but your stamina bar will require you to go get food. I have no idea what this means, mostly because I've never heard anyone say what happens when you reach zero stamina.

I assume nothing happens besides snake is in a state of being as pooped as he can possibly be. From what I gather there isn't going to be rations or instantaneous healing in this game. The higher your stamina bar is, the faster your health will regenerate I guess. If your stamina bar is 0 I guess health does not regenerate or does so slowly until you get the stamina bar up.
What I want to know, is if this is going to be a continue every 20 seconds game like MGS1 and 2. It seems like the whole stamina system is pretty dumb if you are just dying every 20 seconds, starting out at the beginning of the room, and having your health and stamina reset to full every time.
I'd like to see this be a more punishing game like other "survival" games, with limited saving and continuing. If you get caught by guards there should be an incentive to escape and hide rather than just standing there waiting to continue and try the room over again.
One thing they could do, is keep the continue system intact, and save your health/stamina values at each continue point. So if you stagger into a segment with low health and stamina, and you can't complete the room no matter how many times you try, you may be forced to backtrack and hunt for food to boost the stamina.
Welcone Needless to say Please give me the Jesus advent
