No release date yet though. I'll be keeping my eye on this.
Capcom's Clover Studio, which is best known as the developer of Viewtiful Joe, has today announced that it's working on an all-new "nature adventure" game entitled Okami. Exclusive to the PlayStation 2, Okami is set in a fantasyland that--thanks to some of the supernatural monsters that inhabit it--is almost completely devoid of color. Players, assuming the earthly wolf-form of Amaterasu (a mythical sun god), must return color to the land by defeating the monsters.

I agree, I love the style and the looks of it.
BTW that game has been on the site of the Clover(creativity lover) Studio for some time now O.o

I'd like to see how it looks in motion... I've been burned by screenshots too many times.
That said, I hope it looks even better in motion than in stills.

Now THIS is something interesting. I haven't seen an animal hero that wasn't a wisecracking human hybrid jumping around on its hind legs since Ecco the Dolphin. The lack of meters seems to indicate something else here too. Could be that it's just early, but if a game's going to have meters, those are usually the first things implemented.

Well, the wolf is supposed to be a form of the sun goddess Amaterasu. Standard video-game mascot behavior would be unbecoming of her.
Anyway, I saw screenshots of it off IGN a few days back and was awestruck by the art style. I'm looking forward to seeing the title in motion -- and I'm also hoping the gameplay can be as artful as the visual style.
(... and before anyone mentions it -- yes, we know there are different ways to romanize the title.)

Graphically is very impressive, some of the most beautiful screenshots I've seen in a lot of time. The gameplay resembles Black&White, or Doshin the Giant, or one of those "God simulator" games. Of course, it will include it's own twists, but I think the main idea is that, according to GameSpot.

There are people who occasionally complain that there is nothing new or different on the game market. This is different. I don't know how the game is going to play but these initial shots look great.

the shots look a little too 'viewtiful joe' for my taste. All of them except the first, which I really like.
I got them to change their column from calling amaterasu a male god to the female she actually is. yay.
