And an FPS multiplayer mode?!
I just hope they fix the stupid controls. Otherwise any competitive multiplayer mode they include is going to make me vomit with rage every time I try to play it without standard FPS controls.
I wonder if Metroid Prime 2's multiplayer will play sort of like Metroid Prime itself did.
Player1 changes his weapon. Extremely long weapon-change lag time begins. Players 2, 3, and 4 notice Player1 changing weapons. Players 2, 3, and 4 gang up on Player1. Player1's corpse has now equipped the Wave Beam!
But all Metroid-Prime's-infinite-suckage aside, I really wonder if the multiplayer portion of MP2 will actually be any fun. Ubisoft gave their stealth-action game (Splinter Cell 2) an online stealth-action multiplayer mode that is, from what I've heard, absolutely brilliant. Now Nintendo is going to step up to the plate and give their extremely popular exploration/shooting title... an offline Deathmatch mode? This isn't 1998. Between Splinter Cell, Resident Evil: Outbreak, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, and a slew of MMORPGs, I think console gamers are going to expect a bit more than that.

quote: It makes sense, though, I mean, given the full ending of Metroid Prime. You even get to see the hand! :O It's a logical and welcomed conclusion that Metroid Prime would have, in some way, assimilated the technology from Samus's suit.
I don't see an evil Samus there... is there some info in that link as well? These screens aren't really new btw.
Neither do I. I just see a guy in a full suit of combat armor. Who fights. In outer space. Where there is often no air. Obviously, he's just wearing that armor and its fully enclosed helmet for the sole purpose of ripping off Samus.
Yea, the look of Samus' suit I think is storyline-wise actually meant to be typical space bounty hunter wear. At least, well, I guess questionable sources depicted it like that (Like the Nintendo Power comic!) and Metroid Zero showed that Samus had a suit that wasn't all that special before she got the special chozodia version.
I do hope they don't do an evil samus... I don't think they'd be that silly since as stated, there already WAS an evil Samus in Fusion
Well, if it's as Gestahr said, then, well, maybe, but it'd be certainly quite unoriginal.
But what I meant with "an evil Samus" (sorry for not explaining myself better) is if this black figure happens to be another Bounty Hunter, as Tiamat explains. That'd be probably the problem. Why? Because I'm assuming that they'll follow all the usual stereotypes, thus this misterious character will probably be, you know, the evil (because he/she/it is in black) BH who misteriously has the same abilities as Samus (supposedly unique, as they're from the chozo) for some dark unknown reason, and whatnot...
I automatically assumed that the very first instant I saw the pic. Of course I could be wrong (hope so), but I'm a world-famous pessimist ;)
And now for something completely different:
quote: Being that the game is first-person, if they added a multiplayer mode, it stands to reason that it will be first person as well.
Of course, that's not the problem. Out of the "FPS" part, there's nothing wrong with the "FP" but with the "S".
quote: Besides, haven't enough people screamed for Metroid multiplayer of some form... since the first Metroid game?
Dunno, I admit.
quote: I don't see how it could be a bad thing.
Well, because:
quote: I wonder if Metroid Prime 2's multiplayer will play sort of like Metroid Prime itself did.
Player1 changes his weapon. Extremely long weapon-change lag time begins. Players 2, 3, and 4 notice Player1 changing weapons. Players 2, 3, and 4 gang up on Player1. Player1's corpse has now equipped the Wave Beam!
(...)Now Nintendo is going to step up to the plate and give their extremely popular exploration/shooting title... an offline Deathmatch mode?(...)
I thought the controls in Metroid Prime were perfect...but I don't think the controls for the game really aren't made for Multiplayer. The game really wasn't a FPS anyway...more of an adventure game with a First-Person view
That'd be it. I just don't see Prime as a First Person Shooter, but as an adventure that happens to be in FP (losing the Space Jump and the Screw Attack in the way, though , but you can't have it all), as the first title indeed was. So I see pics of a Deathmatch multiplayer mode and... no... even if they allow to change the controls... IMO, just no...
Oboromaru. Yup seems they're all "one-eyed" masked guys now. Just coincidence.

Not that I give two craps about Metroid Prime but I just thought I'd remind you all of something: "Multiplayer" doesn't HAVE to mean head-to-head. It could also be cooperative, like running simultaneous missions, unlocking doors for your partner or other stuff. In fact cooperative play is the trend at Nintendo lately with the new 4-player Zelda and Crystal Chronicles and stuff, so I'd tend to think that's what this will be.
Good point. I always preferred co-op to versus, myself. Maybe it's because I have brothers or something and I prefer to team up with them rather than fight against them. But co-op is what made Twisted Metal so fun for us. It's too bad most FPSs as far as I know don't have a co-op (...not taht I'm into FPS much at all, anyways, though). Co-op metroid could be lots of fun.
Sure, CO-OP mode is fun...sometimes. I'd like to say that the Co-op factor in Battlefield 1941 is especially fun..but you can't compare it to the co-op of Halo, because from what I've played, you just work with someone else to get through stages usually done in 1-player mode. While that has it merits, I think it defeats the purpose of one-player mode.
Now, if Metroid Prime 2 goes multiplayer, They would have to find a way to make the game more interesting. In other FPS games, the mechanics are simplified to make deathmatches more fun. Metroid Prime had so much depth that it may be too complicated for deathmatch purposes. Therefore, the mechanics would have to be reduced. No ball-mode...no all-weapons at start... Also, would you use auto aim?
