quote: Neat! Could you give me a brief synopsis of the plot for SMT2? I know it takes place in the future after the world has been nuked and stuff but not much else.
The setup is that some years after SMT1, the world has been nuked ("In the year 199X..." HAHHAHA) due to a battle b/n the demons and the followers of Chaos (who themselves would say "self-determination") and Law/Heaven (who want to create a kingdom of God on earth). In SMT1, you could follow Chaos and kill all the Law folks, follow Law and kill all the Chaos folks, or say screw them both and go neutral, killing everyone on BOTH sides.
SMT2 goes that the hero of SMT1 chose to whack everyone on both sides. In the future, the world is f'd up, the Law ppl oppress the Chaos ppl and the Law ppl have their big, enclosed mega-city set up which protects the inhabitants from the increasingly toxic outside world. The hero of SMT2 begins as some guy who is discovered by a debt-ridden pit-fighting coach, and once again he will find himself stuck in some conflict b/n Chaos and Law, and will have to decide how he wants to proceed (same as in SMT1, kill either or both).

Thanks! I was super close to beating the SMT1 law path (I did that one since I felt sorry for the law character's girlfriend who's soul was trapped) but got lost and didn't know where to go. I wish there was a path that didn't kill anyone since both the chaos and law characters aren't really bad, they just have different outlooks...

Huh? There isn't a way to not kill at least a majority of the main characters in SMT3, to my knowledge. If you fight someone, you kill them, and you fight everyone that you aren't aligned with. So...I think getting the "good" ending would make you kill the most people, wouldn't it? (though I suppose everyone's OK in the end, from what I've heard). I dunno, I went with Isamu, cause he's cute.
Actually, that's a lie. I was completely neutral, but I loaded my game again before the KEY SCENE with Hijiri and Isamu and made the "Isamu" choice to see what Hijiri would say. That put me on Isamu's path and I forgot to go back and "fix" it.

The Demon Loyalty system in Devil Summoner IS really irritating. I wouldn't say you (or anyone else) should drop DS for Soul Hackers, though. They're both good games.
Well, to me, the Devil Summoner games ARE SMT. Not exactly...but they play almost the same. Persona isn't SMT by any stretch, but DS/SH most certainly is. Thematically, it's different...the plot is different...some gameplay is different, but it's LIKE a sequel in many ways. If someone were to rank SMT games and they included DS/SH in the running, then that would make sense.
Persona, which I like more than any SMT game (though not by a long shot) seems to bring about sort of mixed feelings in the SMT community. Some people consider it childish and no replacement for SMT. Then I guess you have the Persona school that only casually likes SMT and is really into Persona. I like SMT, but I'm not devoted to it, like the TRUE devotees, so if I had to pick sides, I'd say I'm from the Persona school, though that's hardly the case.
