It would seem that the last issue with the romhack has been resolved, and now we just have to wait for the good man Gideon Zhi to release it!

from the man himself at the agtp.homhack.net forums:
"It seems to have worked. Awesome!
You won't be getting a patch for another few weeks, though. Trust me, I have my reasons -- it's a timing thing. "

I'm glad I pressed him for an update on it... no wait, I'm not, because now I'll be stuck in anticipation for the next few weeks. Damn them.

And no, the release delay is NOT to coincide with the anniversary of the release of his SMT1 patch... thank goodness, cuz then we'd be waiting till the end of BLOODY JUNE!

Neat! Could you give me a brief synopsis of the plot for SMT2? I know it takes place in the future after the world has been nuked and stuff but not much else.

The setup is that some years after SMT1, the world has been nuked ("In the year 199X..." HAHHAHA) due to a battle b/n the demons and the followers of Chaos (who themselves would say "self-determination") and Law/Heaven (who want to create a kingdom of God on earth). In SMT1, you could follow Chaos and kill all the Law folks, follow Law and kill all the Chaos folks, or say screw them both and go neutral, killing everyone on BOTH sides.

SMT2 goes that the hero of SMT1 chose to whack everyone on both sides. In the future, the world is f'd up, the Law ppl oppress the Chaos ppl and the Law ppl have their big, enclosed mega-city set up which protects the inhabitants from the increasingly toxic outside world. The hero of SMT2 begins as some guy who is discovered by a debt-ridden pit-fighting coach, and once again he will find himself stuck in some conflict b/n Chaos and Law, and will have to decide how he wants to proceed (same as in SMT1, kill either or both).

Thanks! I was super close to beating the SMT1 law path (I did that one since I felt sorry for the law character's girlfriend who's soul was trapped) but got lost and didn't know where to go. I wish there was a path that didn't kill anyone since both the chaos and law characters aren't really bad, they just have different outlooks...

Yeah, the game ticked me off a lot, too.

Yeah, but they hate each other, so working for either side means killing the folks on the other.

You'll like SMT3 then. That's the path I'm taking. The only person I want to die in the game is Dante. :p

WTF a SMT game that not only doesn't involve everyone brutally dying, but the actual AVOIDANCE of killing others?
Impossible!

Oh, it has that too. It's got all the bases covered pretty much, from a world of individualism to a world of people becoming souless machines. Except you can't turn everyone into clowns like I wanted to. I guess the Big Guy would not be amused. Though you don't have to do what He wants if You don't want to.

Huh? There isn't a way to not kill at least a majority of the main characters in SMT3, to my knowledge. If you fight someone, you kill them, and you fight everyone that you aren't aligned with. So...I think getting the "good" ending would make you kill the most people, wouldn't it? (though I suppose everyone's OK in the end, from what I've heard). I dunno, I went with Isamu, cause he's cute.

Actually, that's a lie. I was completely neutral, but I loaded my game again before the KEY SCENE with Hijiri and Isamu and made the "Isamu" choice to see what Hijiri would say. That put me on Isamu's path and I forgot to go back and "fix" it.

I fail to understand why it doesn't surprise me. I don't find him that cute though, especially in the second half of the game.
For myself, I went the Yosuga pass, because it felt the most reasonnable, and Chiaki is interesting. Whenever I manage to stop playing Katamari Damacy, I continue my second save to try the "ano okata" ending. And I try to pretend Dante can be as useful as Belzebuth+Shiva+Vishnu even without the osu no shôrisakebi, but it's not that easy.

Hey Iggy, you once said that SMT2 was the best in the series. May you tell us why?

No, The Queen Of Flowers did. I think SMT 3 is the best of the series, but it may be because I haven't touched 1 and 2.

SMT2 is generally regarded as the best in the series. I think it's probably because it's almost always regarded as better than SMT1 and nostalgia is a powerful force. I haven't gotten through SMT2, and there are a lot of things that are sort of silly about it, but then again, it's a long game and there are lots of silly things about SMT in general.

Well, nobody likes "If" best, almost everyone likes SMT2 better than SMT1 and SMT3 "doesn't count" because it's in 3D, but I'd say it's roughly as good as SMT2.

Hmmm...but I guess Devil Summoner doesn't count?

I'm playing through that right now and I absolutely despise the Demon Loyalty system... but otherwise, it's pretty enjoyable so far. Maybe I should just skip it and go on to Soul Hackers instead...

How do the Devil Summonr/Soul Hacker games compare? And though they are not the same, where do the Persona games stand among the fans?

The Demon Loyalty system in Devil Summoner IS really irritating. I wouldn't say you (or anyone else) should drop DS for Soul Hackers, though. They're both good games.

Well, to me, the Devil Summoner games ARE SMT. Not exactly...but they play almost the same. Persona isn't SMT by any stretch, but DS/SH most certainly is. Thematically, it's different...the plot is different...some gameplay is different, but it's LIKE a sequel in many ways. If someone were to rank SMT games and they included DS/SH in the running, then that would make sense.

Persona, which I like more than any SMT game (though not by a long shot) seems to bring about sort of mixed feelings in the SMT community. Some people consider it childish and no replacement for SMT. Then I guess you have the Persona school that only casually likes SMT and is really into Persona. I like SMT, but I'm not devoted to it, like the TRUE devotees, so if I had to pick sides, I'd say I'm from the Persona school, though that's hardly the case.

This is me. I think Persona is more fun to play than SMT. Plus Ginko!
