1. Armor, weapons, and goodies are built from two pieces: a "design" and the raw components, such as iron or gold. Designs for things are sold by some people, and they are also dropped periodically in the different levels from chests and monsters. Same with the raw components.
Once you have a design, talk to a blacksmith (weapon) or armorer (armor). You'll be able to see how much gill it'll cost to have them create it and what raw materials you need.
Accesssories are similar, but special. There are only a couple people that can create accessories for you, and you probably won't meet them until later on. However, sometimes they'll show up as a reward you can choose at the end of a level. ~~~ 2. Not especially. You're free to explore different areas and such, but there's only one minigame (by collecting Moogle stamps) and it's not really that good. The rest of the game is getting through the level and picking up items. ~~~ 3. I think every town and level has a Moogle house somewhere in it. You may want to keep a mental note if you find a lot of a particular item in a level so you can collect it easier if you need it to build equipment.
Stages you beat will not have Myrrh the next year, but will have Myrrh again the year after that. Each time a stage is resupplied with Myrrh, the difficulty increases a little bit and sometimes new paths open up. ~~~ 4. There is no real experience or levels, at least not in the traditional sense. You just increase your stats for the most part. Most of the time, this is done by picking a reward when you finish a level. You can also upgrade your equipment to boost attack or defense, and you can still keep replaying levels to get additional rewards.
Edit: Teamwork is really the way to go. When I went through with three firends, each person took on a job and shared things based on who needed that particular thing the most. It's probably the biggest accomplishment that this game has to offer - the game is designed around the teamplay aspect and is absolutely fantastic in that respect.

Well, most of these were answered, so...
quote: 2. Any cool things we can do besides just collect myrrh?
3. Any thing we should keep an eye out for?
2: At the beginning of each year, have each character talk to their father. This is significant for the tailor, alchemist, blacksmith, and merchant families (I do hope those were the jobs you chose. The others are pretty worthless. If not, then you can make new characters with those family jobs and just have them talk to their family fathers at the beginning of each year then switch back to your main characters). Er... do you want me to spoil why? (though there's no storyline reason. It's an item reason)
3. Pay attention to the poem. Or, more easily, just look it up in a FAQ when you get there...
