Has anyone besides me had a chance to play this Koei game?

The first game was a really obscure Xbox only title, so there's probably a limited audience who would have been looking forward to it. Still, I had really liked the game and Famitsu gave it four 8's and a Gold so I thought I'd see if anyone else had tried it out.

The combo counter past 1000 at some points in the game, and it has really varied mission objectives within a mostly non-linear structure. You revisit the same areas repeatedly to run the missions, but you're constantly upgrading your weapons and abilities and there are special bonuses and items for S rankings. I found it to be pretty addictive, I'd recommend action fans check it out.

Not trying to adver-post here, but this game is about as low-profile as you can get. It really deserves some decent word of mouth.

No places around me will rent it, and I didn't like the first one (sorry). But this one has co-op, and seems to be different enough that I might like it a lot, from what I've heard.

I'm curious as well.

Unfortunately the coop mode is very limited, and completely separate from the story mode. More like mini-games using the core mechanics, really. I'll admit that versus mode is completely useless...

I believe it's a lot like the first one on a basic level, but the control for one is much better. Do rent it if you get the chance.

CS2 sounds interesting but, like Kaepora, I haven't found it for rent anywhere in my area and I'm hesitant to pay full price for a game I'm not certain about. I'm also not sure if I should just wait for Samurai Warriors/Sengoku Musou instead since both games sound like they are variations on the same adventure game theme.

I've played both, and aside from the number of enemies you're facing and the feel of melee combat they're completely different.

Crimson Sea 2 is completely short-mission-based and tied together by a hub area. It's not adventure, but practically a pure action game with light RPG elements outside the core gameplay. Ranged combat is a huge part of the game, as well.

Instead of facing a dozen or so soldiers at once you'll literally have a couple of hundred critters on the screen at one time. Basically, instead of having a persistent battlefield, enemies spawn in an area and you face them nearly all at once (new enemies phase in right away to replace dead ones).

So I'm through plugging this game while two people humor me. Really.

That's two more than I got when I plugged the first game on this very board. :p

I liked the first, but I've heard bad things from the people who played both first and sequel, saying it was a step down in many ways. Added to the fact I only have an Japanese PS2 and would have to import it, plus the fact I have so many games now that a game has to be utterly amazing to justify a purchase, makes me pass on this one.

Ninja Gaiden has ruined me for action games. It really has. Especially when I played it so much it makes me feel as if I'll never want to play a 3rd person action game again. :p
