quote: I'd like to know just how much of this time is spent in finding every rare item/getting a character of every type and class/levelling all characters to max/getting max of everything/etc.
In La Pucelle? There the only way to get rare items is to score special on the chapters (you're going to need to level to pull this off) and make trips through Hell (and even more leveling for this). I did neither because it sounded tedious.
In Phantom Brave, some rare items are gotten only by going through tedium (complete a 99 level dungeon without stopping? no thanks), but thankfully some can just be stolen from characters, though you'll need to level to get it. You can level in PB very quickly if you want to though. Our very own Zepy explained to me how, though I actually use the slower way because I really enjoy the game and I'm also stupid. :p
quote: And I'd like to know if the game comes to a dead stop before you get to the extras, just like Disgaea does. All this power-levelling that I'm doing right now is starting to feel like Ragnarok Online and even though I'd really like to see the secret areas, I'm thinking of stopping.
In Phantom Brave, you can fight Laharl right after the 'end' credits and he's only a little harder than the final boss so there's virtually no transition there, though you need to complete 30, 60, and 99 level dungeons to get some of the later bosses, but this can be done pretty quickly if you know what you're doing. I can clear a 99 level dungeon in an hour. Did so today in fact to unlock the final set of bosses.
In La Pucelle, there's a huge gulf of a stop, which is why I've never done the optional stuff there. Sounds too much like work to me, though if you really dig the combat system I guess it wouldn't be work.

Oh God, yes, the time between the last boss and the hidden boss in La Pucelle is hellishly long. What's worse is that your characters have already learned most of their moves (or all of them) by this point, so it's not very exciting anymore.
I'll go ahead and burst some bubbles by saying that La Pucelle is, in many ways, a bit sloppy. Nippon Ichi has just now started making really solid games, and La Pucelle is not one of them. That being said, I still enjoyed it more than Disgaea. I love the system, I love the characters and the plot, up until the end (which is horrifically bad) is entertaining. However, it doesn't have a system that allows for as much as Disgaea or Phantom Brave...and it's not really worth putting 120 hours into by any means. I would be more inclined just to start the game over, because it's enjoyable to go through several times.
