I bought RE Outbreak yesterday, and is it just me or is this the hardest RE game yet made? I've died so many times now it's really starting to bug me. What's worse the game uses the old "temporary save" technique that Dragon Quarter used, which makes dying on the final part of a scenario frustrating as hell. Well at least if you die on the last part of a scenario the next one is unlocked anyway, but that makes me feel like I'm being patronized :P

Still it's kinda fun. I just wish you could make the NPCs shut up some way other than letting them get dragged out a window :P

Heh, yeah it does seem a bit hard. I'm playing through the scenarios on easy setting so I know what to look for (square crank opens the door so I can get the blue key etc) and then focus on killing zombies when I play for real.

Also I wasn't able to play online much last night since I could only connect to the lobby once and I was disconnected midgame. Hopefully Capcom will get it together soon.

ZOMBIES!!! Where's Segata Sanshiro when you need him?

But seriously, I think I'll hold off on getting RE Outbreak. First of all, I have school matters that'll keep me busy. Second, I have to play the X-files Survival Horror game I bought before I can even think of playing Outbreak. Third, I heard that the game has horrendous load times.

Yeah, the load times are pretty bad, but supposedly it loads 3x faster if you have the HDD.

The game isn't much of a time commitment. It's designed to be played in short bursts. You play a scenario and stop, then start over with someone else or switch to another scenario.

This is such a mixture of embarresment, humilation and moronic fun. If I had to do that, I hope I had fun otherwise I'd feel like such a tool and be pretty ticked off.

I forgot that the Metreon was having this launch party. They actually advertised it a little on the radio.

BTW, can someone actually describe how the online gameplay of this game. I seriously never thought Capcom would release this game. I mean, RE is such a one player game-- it really boggles my mind on how they could make into an online multiplayer game. Also, do you have to pay a monthly fee to play it online?

Random unorganized things-

The game is nice.

Capcom must be running their servers on atari 2600 or they didnt expect more than 3 people to buy the game. Oh well, it helped unlock stuff offline.

The load times didnt bother me much when I was playing the beta, but I sure hoped they would go faster. But with the hdd makes the thing awesome.

Music is nice.

Goddamn Bob is stubborn as hell.

I hear stuff about random freezings, anyone had this before?

Butter_monster was rank 1 points-wise in the first scenario for a bit.

Go to hell, Kevin.

Wheee~ I've been playing all night and I love it. I'm tryingt o fanagle my normal HD into working on PS2, but yeah...the loading is ugly without it, but hardly noticable with it. I haven't tried single player yet, but it's great fun trying to communicate on multiplayer. Getting split up is scary, too.

I...really wouldn't say it's that hard, though...I've been playing on normal.

I was trying to play with some people last night and we were having a horrible time. Two people couldn't connect at all and another couldn't see the games that we were creating. There are some definate issues here that Capcom had better address. When we actually played together for one game we kicked its ass since we weren't moronic like some of the people playing right now.

Otherwise it's a neat game. Lots of interesting weapons like brooms, spraycans and bottles of acid. The load times aren't THAT bad. I have a free HDD so they are great with that; I played a DVD game since one of the people I wanted to play with didn't have one and it is much longer to load, not enough to make you not want to play. I wish there was a setting so you could turn off the movies. It was annoying to be in a room, wait for the movie you've seen 100 times to load, see the movie since one guy won't press start, then wait as the original room loads again.

My game has frozen a few times, but I think that's due to the shitty network more than anything else.

Who's Bob?

Bob is the old man that you have to take to the roof top when you play as Mark. For some reason whenever I try to take him he refuses to go through doors.

I am no longer scenario 1 rank 1 >:o

Yeah, I was wondering that, too. I doubt I'll be getting this game unless I can get it on PC or something... I don't plan on taking my PS2 online (I'd rather do XBox Live if I played online with a console- flat rate is a major selling point), and I've heard about these stupid loading times. Why don't they have those under control by now? I mean, a game like Silent Hill only makes you wait a second or two between rooms... and it doesn't need a HD to load, either. Well to this game's credit there's a lot more info to load. I think SH is still using FMV backgrounds (not sure) while this is 3D. Also there's random monsters and 3 other characters to keep track off.

There needs to be a "don't show crappy movies" toggle though. Those get a little old the 100th time you've seen that guy get eaten.

Do you mean RE is using FMV backgrounds? Yeah, it is. It still sucks to deal with the loading times even in RE0 and the other newer RE games.... I would stop myself from going back to a room to check on something just because I didn't want to have to wait on those damned doors. I could cope with the old RE1 load times because it was PSX, but now I'd think they'd have found a way to speed them up or something. Regardless, it's just irritating enough to get under your skin after a while.

Ah, good. If they ever do release it for PC, I'll definitely check it out.

SH has always been fully polygonal. No FMV backgrounds, ever since the first game. The flashlight was first used so that not all of the background had to be displayed at once, actually.

Yeah, I figured he had meant to say RE, but typed SH instead... RE has always been 3D characters on 2D rendered backgrounds. There were moving textures in SH3, so (assuming they did it how I think they did) there was a little bit on FMV applied as a texture, but otherwise all 3D since the beginning.

The flashlight in SH came off more as a conscious gameplay element to me, but it was convenient that it let geometry fall away into the dark. There's no question about the fog, though... although I'm sure they did both for the sake of hiding part of the environment. Either way, they both looked really good and ended up being major characteristics of the whole series.

Oops duh. Yeah RE = prerendered, SH = polygonal. Typed that on the way out of the house and didn't re-read it...
