I blame yer spoiler on the whole 'each time I come back, I bring a little bit more with me' thing.
Spoiler (Highlight to view) - Sure, I'm not sure exactly how the mythos works, but I saw it as more of a spawn or shadow or whatnot of what was on the other side as opposed to a direct physical manifestation. Now, this is not to say that I wasn't a bit let down by the final confrontaion,. I mean, we all knew it was gonna eat gernades eventually, but it would have been nice to see a bit more go into said eating. On a side note, what's up with Liz needing a slap across the face to jump start her powers. Sure, seeing your buddy die isn't impetus enough to flame on, but a little tap on the cheek and boom, it's go time.
End of Spoiler
I knew I would do it and I know this I know what I am doing now that I am doing something both beautiful but gruesome because I am destroying its beauty by knowing that it might be beautiful know that if I know that I am dong something beautiful that it's no longer beautiful. - Dave Eggers A.H.W.O.S.G.

Of the reviews I read before going to see the film, most said that this is a movie intended really for the fans of the original Hellboy comic, and after seeing the movie, I tend to agree. I only recently got into the comic, but consider myself a fan, and I was pleased with Hellboy. Ron Perlman does an excellent job playing HB. He really brings out the character for what he's supposed to be: a demon who doesn't act like a demon. The other characters come out beautifully, though I think Rasputin could have been a little bit better. And Kronen is an uber-bastard. I'd like to see him take on Bloodrayne.
I went to see the movie with my dad and brother, and they claimed they didn't like it as much. They said that it would have been better if the movie was more like Spiderman. You have to understand that Spiderman and Hellboy are two very different superheroes with very different mechanics. Their attitudes are different, their personae are different. But I think that Hellboy feels a whole lot more human than Spiderman could ever be. The scenes prove it. Look at the rooftop scenes with the boy, the save-the-kittens scene, and any scene with him and Linda. I think this movie was more character driven than Spiderman... but then that's just me.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. Undoubtedly tne new Best Dark-Horse Comic adaptation out there (I only know of two others: Virus and The Mask). I hope there are sequels. I also home that Del Toro actually goes through with the Hellboy anime idea he discussed a while back.
Also, wouldn't it be a neat idea to have Hellby and the BPRD fight or team up with Alucard and the Hellsing Organization? *Drool*

I liked Hellboy, but I just wanted to point out that I feel differently about those statements then you. Not an attack, just saying that I disagree.
Your dad and brother didn't like it though? I wouldn't have wanted Hellboy to be like Spider-man at all, I mean, Spider-man is Spider-man and Hellboy is Hellboy. You are right, they are two different heroes and they both have completely different stories and comic types. My sister went and saw Hellboy with me and we both liked it. She's never read the book or anything and, as I've said, I've read very little of it. If my dad had gone with us, he'd probably have liked it. Anyways, I'm glad you appreciated it.

quote: Answer to your first spoiler question:
I think that's correct, or at least the way I saw it was... although it could have been clearer that was the case, my friend pretty much asked the same question after the movie, so it's probably one of those things you either picked up on or were confused by. A little on such topic:
Spoiler (Highlight to view) - I think calling the things "eggs" is what confuses people... people assume eggs will hatch on their own, I mean a chicken doesn't die so it's egg hatches, right?
The eggs seemed to be more like vessels for the souls to return into, so when there's no more left there's no way back, rather then true "baby eggs"... although it's never really explained, it can be guested by watching the movie, but it could also be assumed the eggs were just hatching during the battle and adding to the ressurecting Sammys.
End of Spoiler
Anyway, I liked the movie... nothing else to say except that.
This picture is unusally orange no?

Just came back from Hellboy. I didn't love it, but I still thought it was very good. In regards to the on-going spoiler question:
Spoiler (Highlight to view) - I think it all comes back to the scene where Rasputin releases Sammael from the statue. The "salt from a thousand angels' tears" kept Sammael's body from regenerating, but Rasputin's breath gave it life. I got the feeling that the eggs couldn't attain their full form without that breath either, so the eggs could only hatch when a Sammael died and released more of the breath.
We're definitely missing a scene that explains all of this, though. I have a feeling that that's going to be one of those deleted scenes on the DVD that makes you say, "NOW it makes sense. Why the Hell did they cut that?!"
End of Spoiler
In response to the other spoiler, though... Hellboy and Disgaea spoilers:
Spoiler (Highlight to view) - "2) The way they brought Liz back to life at the end was so lame...."
The way they brought Liz back reminded me of the scenes in Disgaea where Laharl commands Death and God to do his bidding... except it somehow worked a lot better when it was delivered by a game sprite and his poorly paid voice actor, rather than thousands of dollars of makeup and a highly paid, well-known actor. If they had Hellboy actually confront something, or at least look upwards, and command something to bring her back, I think it would've been a pretty cool scene. But instead, he just whispers something and Liz asks what he said, which really didn't work well at all.
