Anyway, I'd much rather hear Osaka with a southern accent than FUGEDDABAUDITTT!!! like the manga. I keep hearing the whole "kansai is the Japanese equivalent of a southern accent" thing for a long time, so it makes sense to me that they'd make her southern... plus, I think that accent would fit her character much better than an obnoxious Brooklyn accent or whatever. Then again, I'll probably only watch it in English every once in a while (like when I'm working on the computer and can't stop to read subtitles). I've gotten attached to their real voices...

Personally I stopped caring about Osakan accect authenticity long ago. I've heard that it's the equivalent of accents from New York, the South, mixture of the two, "common" English, ebonics, etc. I think it's just easier if I don't get wrapped up about it as long as the original intent is there. As for the mp3s posted, I don't think the voice artist really has Osaka's tone and way of talking down very well, but hopefully she'll get the hang of it with time.

Eehhhh... I heard the voice. You're right. She doesn't have Osaka's voice down (yet?). At least it didn't sound over-the-top and cartoony, though.
Anyway, I'm just happy it's not some awful stereotypical New York accent. It wouldn't fit her character. I don't care if it's accurate as far as what her accent would translate to, but at least it's sort of in-character and not obnoxious.

Seriously though, it is good that they are releasing Azumanga in America at all. You always have the option to listen to the original voice track, and that's more than you can say about most videogames. I hope it sells well.
And also, be happy for what you have now. If the American anime localization scene heads the way most American industries are going, a lot of the characters are going to curiously start developing very strong Indian accents.

Do you notice how big companies these days seem to love the idea of "globalization" when it comes to where they pay for their employees....but for some mysterious reason, their feelings towards globalization suddenly turn sour when it comes to giving the consumers the freedom to purchase and play DVDs and games from other regions? Hmmmm!
Hey, I'm not complaining... I'll be there at the store on the release date trying to find the Azumanga DVD. I was planning on pretty much only watching it in Japanese anyway, so the English voices aren't that much of a disappointment. At least they're not like a lot of dubs I used to hear where the voice actors took roles with NORMAL voices and decided to do some sort of Looney Tunes Yosemite Sam voice for the character or something like that.

But really, this is grossly off topic. I'd say it's just the way the world (the capitalist world at least) works. Who said that a programmer deserves to be paid 70,000 dollar a year anyway? The market. Now it's changing its mind.
I'd understand if people wanted the United States to become communist, but otherwise I'm not inclined to have much sympathy for people crying "someone took my high-paying job". Join the massive global "People who work low paying jobs they hate" club, and try for something better.
I think the point he was making was that these companies are making animation sweatshops because they're GREEEEEEDY. It's not really ethical. But big companies aren't really known for their ethics, so I guess there's no problem?
