Since the rumors of the month are not that interesting, I thought I would translate these... They come from a guy who says he is a debugger (which is hard to believe, and so is the rest of the rumor).
The general rules come from 02 (for the invincibility to throw when waking up, the reversal long jump, the counters, etc). The game uses 4 buttons. The 3 “grooves” all have the kinzai (the new-old name of the MAX2). All have the usual evade move. Advanced : N groove/KOF 98. You can stock 3, then 4 and 5 gauges. Succession : KOF 2002/SvC, but you can’t dokocan -> super cancel. The gauge gets shorter as you lose your characters. Conservatism : Just defence, JD cancel, etc. No system has a jump guard, but you can jump JD.
The guy doesn’t know every character, so except for a few ones, he’s not sure for many characters (mostly those for which he didn’t noticed any changes).
Kyo : 02 base. His kinzai is the mushiki (and I don’t know the names of his moves, so I don’t get which moves have their 99 or 03 properties. He has a special throw) Beni : 02 base + his new move of 03. Daimon : 02 base, lost the yama no arashi and gained his counter of 03. Shingo : 03 base ? Saishu : 98. The enju has a different follow up. His kinzai is a special throw. Chris : 02. his kinzai is a ranbu. Shermie : 02. Yashiro : 98 base. His kinzai is the 02 one. Mature : 02. Death Claws changed. Vice : 02. Raven changed. Iori : SvC base? K’ : 02 base, plus his new moves of 03. Maxima : 03 base. Whip : maybe 03 base? Kula : 02. No new moves. Leona : 03 ? No berserk. Heidern : 98 (tame chara). Has a counter (at least a upward counter). Chang : 03? Choi : 02? Has the 6A (piyoyon!) Juhn : 03? Lin : 00, without the hitenkyaku, and with…another move (from 01?). The senshurakansatsu is his kinzai. D! : 98. Kinzai : counter. Plucky : 98. Has a feint hellbound. Brian : 98 weak attack -> Brian tornado connects. The American super nova is a complete antiair, whatever it means. Ralf : 02, plus the unblock. His kinzai is his MAX2 from 02, but you can hit the falling opponent (I thought you could already in 02… no?) Clark : 02. His kinzai is a gathering -> kinniku buster. Chin : 02 base (YES!) Kensou : 02. The senkihatsudou is his kinzai. Has the choryurenken. Athena : 02 clothes, 98 base + psycho shoot. Kinzai = psychich 9 (9? Why 9?) Terry : 02 + dunk breaking, power charge. His kinzai can be connected to the buster wolf. Andy : 02. Lost the gekiheki (?) and got a command move. Joe : 03 base (NOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!) Mai : 02 base. Has the hishuryuenjin. Kinzai : she runs forward, then hououno mai. Mary : maybe 03. Kim : 03 + kuurengeki. The hishukyaku is like in 98 Yamazaki : 02. His kinzai is his leader super from 03. Xianfei : maybe 01. Krauzer : you can hold the blitzball. Has the lift up blow, gigantic cyclone. Kinzai : unlimited desire. Billy : 03? Geese : the reppuken is a projectile. Has the rasshomon, deadly rave. Kinzai : raging dead-end. Big : either he has a new move or it was a new animation for one of his moves. Eiji : no big change from 95, but he is redrawn (does it mean Krauzer and Big are not!?) Kasumi : 99? King : 03, but the venom strike are as always. Yuri : 03 + chou knuckle. Takuma : 01. Kinzai: tenguranbu. Robert : 98+02? The ryuugekiken doesn’t fly away. Kinzai : kyutoryusen. Ryo : 03. The ichigekihissatsu is a super and doesn’t stuns, like in 01. Kusanagi : 02. Has the 182shiki. His kinzai is a counter. Orochi Chris: 02. Orochi Shermie: 02, plus a new move where she shoots thunder from her kicks (?) Orochi Yashiro: 02. Midboss: May lee (Why her! Why not Angel!) 02, but has new animations. Preboss: Goenitz (shitenno kita!). SvC, but the yonokaze has the size of the hurricane upper. Boss: Omega Rugal (So, we can have Goenitz->Rugal ->Heidern!)
The game has an excellent music, and a lot of dialogs: Iori: Ho, you were alive? Eiji: I came back to kill you Iori: I long for the moon of tomorrow (kinda) Kyo: Sorry, I’m the sun you know.
Right now, if it is real, we would miss Chizuru, K9999, Angel, Foxy, Hinako, Bao, Vanessa, Seth, Ramon, Orochi, Boso Iori&Leona, Krysalid, both Zero, Ignitz, weak Rugal and everybody from 03.
…Even if all this happens to be false, at least we had fun before the game was released. Because I’m not sure we will afterwards. It’s SNKP after all.

Interesting, even if this is just a rumor, I wouldn't mind the game like this at all.
About Eiji, he wouldn't fit in a new KoF since he was only in 95 (different sprite style). While Mr. Big and Krauser will probably just have a couple redone frames (like the New Face team in 2k2). I mean Goenitz was 96 and he really wan't redrawn in SvC (again, just added a few new frames). It's just Mizuki in SSS and SSOs.
And I find May Lee as a boss jusrt plain strange. It's the only real thing I find unbelieveable about this rumor. Plus no Vanessa makes me cry.

Bullshit.
IIRC, there are 74 different fighters in the KOF series (up to 2001 there were 66 characters, plus Duo, Griffon, Gato, Shen, Ash, Mukai, Adel and Malin in 2003). 76 if you add Maki and Kusanagi.
Neo-Geo = Called a "dinosaur" by the graphic whores.
AW = Praised as the "future" of 2D boards.
So...
If the AW can´t have every KOF character in what seems to be the same old sprites touched up a little, it´s a waste of time. Plain and simple. SNKP would be better off moving to a board that CAN handle it.
I am waiting to see what they can do with the AW. If they give me KOF 2002 with five or ten extra characters, fuck them. They moved, so they have to show why. Shiny fireballs and backgrounds are not good enough for a dreammatch in the new board.
The 16-bit Neo could hold 42 characters. MVC2 had 56 characters. So the AW (which is said to be oh so much better) has to be able to handle ALL 74 OF THEM, easily.
GG Isuka already makes me scared of the AW power, how the game seems to look worse than GGXX#R (four characters on-screen = toned-down sprites already?). Shit, they have what, 20 characters and the thing already seems to be at its limit!
If NeoWave is just another 2002 with ten extra characters, they can shove the board up their asses, because the CPS2 could do that - a board called "outdated" by the same people begging for the AW.

The 16-bitness of the Neo Geo doesn't enter into it; it's about how much storage space, RAM and load times you're working with The Neo Geo can hold a thousand characters if you stuff in enough ROM chips. KoF 98 is about 683 Megabits. That's around 86 Megabytes to store a whole Neo Geo game with around 40 characters if you count the Orochi team and Omega Rugal for less than a sixth of a CD-ROM. If you put all the KOF characters on a CD-ROM, you have enough room left for a poorly compressed opening, and some moderately better resampled music (Music and video take up a crapload of space, comparatively). If you have a DVD-ROM, you can store all the KOF characters, with all the AoF and FF characters to boot with nice music and FMVs.
So why isn't this uber-fighter being done? It's about the man-hours. Say what you want about sprite reuse, but the characters are being at least touched up, and adding more characters isn't like plopping them in Mugen. Who knows, they may even be adding more frames of animation. In addition, the actual engine has to be designed and implemented on brand new and potentially unfamiliar hardware. Add to that all the extra testing that would involve and music recomposition (I seriously hope they don't reuse Neo Geo audio), and you've got some cost-efficiency issues to worry about. Would I like a fighter with Foxy and the rest? Sure. I think SNK should start on KoF 2006 right now so it would be done in time, but then I'm not the one investing money in an arcade game (Thank God).

after reading up on the Atomiswave on System16, i don't think the data limit on the carts is known yet. 128MB sounds little since, the Neo reached almost 80MB itself. i think its 128 X 8 or something. It's not confirmed yet. As for the Atomiswave being the end all 2d machine, its really up to the develepors to do what they want for it. It's really all programming, and porting all the sprites over from Naomi (in GGXX's case) depends on how well the programming was done. Remember how crappy the MvC 2 was on the PS2 compared to Guilty Gear XX?its time and programming!!! I have asked the guy from System16 if based on specs, the Atomiswave was more powerful than the CPS III, and he told me that there is no comparision, that the Atomiswave was hundreds of times better.... and in my opinoin, Street Fighter III : Third Strike was the craziest 2d monster game i have ever seen.
The only thing i fear is that great games like Street Fighter III/Garou took years to make, whereas SNKP is churning these games out in periods less than 6 months. Hm.....

quote: Shiny fireballs are not good enough for a dreammatch in the new board. Uh Oh... Sorry to disapoint you more, but the fireballs are also reused fromthe neo geo versions. And I think you have been too much listening to fanboy rants. The point of moving to Atomiswave is because it was cheaper than things like Naomi, but mainly because it was not yet emulated, and because Sammy begins to grow more and more on SNK. That's it. The fact it's a little bit more powerful than the NG is a nice bonus, but SNK never said some megaton announcment about how the board change would revolututionize KOF. Plus, NeoWave is the Sammy KOF, if I followed the story. I'm smelling a story of Sammy doing it (giving the money to do it) so that SNK finally gets convinced to moves their old sprites on the new board.
well, i can also say that one of the main points that SNK moved to the new and way more powerful board (16 bit to 128...) is to upgrade their games to today's standards. Would they dare use the same sprites they have used since who knows when (96?) Anyways, one of their main points in interviews recently, has been that fans can expect the graphics to update. As for Neowave, the name itself says everything. (The best of Neo on the Atomiswave, kinda like a recap of all the good ol moments we had with the KOF on the Neo, dare i say, 10th anniversary special???) Now if the graphics don't change a bit in 2004, then screw them, they just in it for the E-Z money.....(and this is SNKP we r talking about)

idiot. CPS2 can't do that.
also, GGX's sprite is like 4 times the size of a KOF sprite.
it's easy to redraw characters, it's programming and balancing all 76 of em which is hard. just look at kof 2003. it has so much characters that they overlooked duo lon & malin's gheyness.

quote: I think GGXX has very good animation. I also think it has a low frame count.
I second that. Good animation isn't all about how many frames there are, its also about the quality of the individual frames, especially the keyframes. I would say that overall Guilty Gear is animated quite well, although some characters do look notably better than others. For instance, try pairing Slayer up with Anji Mito.
Slayer animates incredibly well. He seems to have more frames of animation than other characters, but beyond that, each frame goes really far. He moves really well; very expressively. His posture is so arrogant; his moves have so much force. He has weight and impact, and most importantly, character.
Anji on the other hand animates kinda clumsily. His posture doesnt look right and lots of his animations are downright choppy and not just cos of lack of frames, but because those frames don't work together that well. He comes across as a really flat character, and its not just because of his simple shading, it's because he doesn't move with much weight or character. His posture is stiff and his animations are very basic.
Animation's about so many things. Not just the way the characters are drawn, not just the number of frames, but how all those elements come together to make a moving image.
Personally i love how guilty gear looks. Sure it could use a few more frames (and better frames) here and there, but then again, almost every other 2D fighter could really use a hi-res facelift.
It;s not essential, but it would be nice.

I didn't bothered to post it here (because I don't trust the guy much) but he came back a few days later to give some more details on each character, and say that the first midboss was either Mey Lee or Angel, and the second was either Goenitz or Chizuru (a little like those secret bosses in SvC). But it's too good to believe. I think it's safer to prepare ourselves to be severely disapointed, and let's not begin to talk about the controls (The same applies to the PS2 version of SS0/S).
Is this guy just some random poster? Or is there any chance he´s the real thing?
And that would mean Foxy, Vanessa, Seth, Ramon, Bao, K4_9, Maki and Hinako would be missing (and some bosses)?
Not like we should care about K9999 (or Maki), but Vanessa and Foxy have quite a few fans.
