I choose Type A for Fumiko and Chibi Fumiko. I find Type B to awkward to use...
Playing with her is like playing Ikaruga: you have to memorize when and where the enemies are coming out, and also their flight patterns.
She's the hardest character to use because you cannot move when you're positioning your Shikigami, and her normal shot sucks! But it's not too bad in ShikiII because you don't have to "level up" her shot anymore: it's just normal and rapid fire for everyone now.
The fact that you have to aim her shot and the lack of any homing / spread properties on her shot doesn't make life easier, although you can "wiggle" her left and right and you'll fan out her shot ala Contra style.
Thank god that her normal shot is powerful!
Wiggle Fumiko to Victoly!
One good thing about her is that her Shikigami is disgustingly powerful: I kill most bosses the fastest with her (notable exception: the 3-1 puzzle boss).
For crowd control, you have to place your Shikigami in the best spot and position yourself correctly. Which means: you don't wait for your enemies to appear before you take action; you take action before they appear.
Although this is mostly true for all characters, but for poor Fumiko this is the only way to play properly.
For 8x multiplier techniques, you either:
1) place her Shikigami at dense or intersecting enemy paths and scrape bullets elsewhere (quite safe)
2) for weak enemies, place the Shikigami, move inside it and scrape against the enemies that get run into it (risky, and cannot be used in Extreme Mode due to suicide bullets)
3) for bosses I place the Shikigami on the part I want to destroy and scrape against any blind spots. There is usually no other way to do this :(
One thing I have to admit: if Fumiko / Chibi Fumiko wasn't so cute I'd never even bother devoting so much time with her :)
She's like the Gedo of Shikigami no Shiro! (err... bad example)
