I live in New York City!

For Arcades, the best one is Chinatown Fair, also called CTF which is on Mott Street. There's another Arcade on 42nd Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenue which is pretty good, but not much for fighters as they still don't have SVC or Guilty Gear X, but at least all the Foghters are grouped on the same floor.

For Manga and Anime, Kinokuniya bookstore on 49th and Rockefeller Center is probably the best Japanese bookstore. Book Off that sells stuff for crazy cheap is not that far away which I believe is on 41 past fifth Avenue. Be warned that after Asahiya Bookstore closed down in NYC, you can't find Arcadia in the city anywhere.

For Comics, there's Midtown Comics on 40th between Seventh and Eight. Also, there's Forbidden Planet on 13th and Broadway and they have a very good Anime Selection. If you can't find what you want there, go across the street to Tower Video and they have an even better Anime Selection. I assume at some point you are going to visit the Empire State Building. Across the Street from it on 33rd Street is Jim Hanley's Universe, which is another great comic book shop!

If you need specific addresses, you can Google the stuff I mentioned, or I can provide them if you'd like.

actually asahiya didnt close down, they just relocated. they are still around the same area. just google them for the exact location.

they are much smaller now though. i havent been but my wife went and said she wasnt terribly impressed. im not sure if they still do all the special ordering they used to.

Really? Thanks! I'm going there today!

I'm crossing my fingers that they still carry Arcadia...

I googled them and kept getting the old address. So I called information. They are on 45th Street between Fifth and Madison.

I'm still praying they carry Arcadia... find out later today.

We have SvC and GGX,but they're virtually ignored by everyone.

Off hand, I'd say no. Their CD collection seems to be increased and they even have the SF2 Tribute Album so it's up to date (In their old spot, their CD selection on Video Games and Anime has been very sucky for it's last 2 years) even though Kinokuniya still has a better selection. Asahiya's Anime Books and Video Game Magazines are grouped together and are WAAAAAAY back in the far corner of the store. And good luck finding the new spot without an Address since there is no store sign outside... the Manga selection is cut in half of what it used to have. All the Manga books are still wrapped in plastic so you can't see what's going on inside unlike Book-Off. At the very least on the Manga Books, they finally started putting the price on the books, since figuring out how much Yen translates into American Dollars is not always easy.

Well, between Asahiya having Arcadia and Kinokuniya and Book-Off having everything else, I'm straight!

I passed by Asahiya this week, and they did put a sign up that says "Asahiya." Could they have been reading this Site? Doubt it, LOL!

Like I said, there are Game Shops everywhere in NYC. Walk up and down Broadway or Sixth Avenue and you're likely to find a bunch of them. But if you're looking for hard to find stuff, here are two stores you need to check out. Ah, hell. These two stores are so cool you need to check them out anyway!

J&L Game Trading Inc.
28 Elizabeth St.
New York, NY 10013

Multimedia 1.0
18 Saint Marks Place
New York, NY 10003

And if you go to Multimedia 1.0, go across the street and check out this cool Comic Book Store!

St. Mark's Comics
11 St. Marks Place
New York, NY 10003

Have a great time in NYC!

On second thought, don't walk up and down Broadway and Sixth looking for Gamespots. There are a lot but they are pretty far apart, and I don't know if you're a walkaholic like me.

I'll give you the addresses of two more cool Game Shops next week.

If you have trouble finding anything, you can just call information on a phone by dialing 411, you can tell them the name of any of the stores mentioned here, and they will give you the store's address and the people who work there will help you with directions. Just in case you don't know this already.

j&l is out of control overpriced. but they do have a lot of cool stuff. lots of rares. the thing is, they dont even bother to take off the "trader" tags from their purchases at the "trader" stores in japan. that's annoying. trader already overprices its games so youre getting double over charged. ugh. still they do have a lot of cool stuff.

small but cool. lots of cool nec turbo and older rare system stuff. not as overpriced as j&l but not as much stuff either.

For other Gameshops, there's Game Express which is on 32nd St. between sixth avenue and seventh avenue, and nearby on 33rd Street on the corner of sixth Ave is Gamestop. On 33rd st. the Forbidden planet comic shop is there between sixth and fifth, and the Empire State Building is nearby so you can make a fun day out of it.

Thank you all !

NYC is such a great city !

My shopping highlights :

- Buying Disgaea in Virgin Megastore (Times Square)
- Finding J&L in China Town, talking with seller for 20 minutes about game in Japan, US and Europe
- Buying BattleField Vietnam, FarCry and UT2K4 in a row at EB Games
- Finding that my hotel is near Forbidden Planet
- Buying a Wolvie bust at Midtown Comics
- Buying a Colossus Statue near Wall Street.

Funny fact :
Looking for Superman 202 for 2 days in NYC, sold out everywhere.
I found it at my import shop in Paris, lol.
