I read over at Phuck-IGN that Sonic X is being canned after 52 episodes.
...was it really THAT bad? O_o

Are you sure it was canned or it just ended it's run?
52 or 24 eps is a pretty average run for an anime series.

Yeah,52 actually is about the average for an American show even, unless it's market-driven crap like SpongeBob or Powerpuff Girls.
I myself liked the anime. Tails and Cream had some lousy voices, but that was my only gripe. I think the series capture Sonic and pals well.

Yeah, a quick search on Google came up with this page that shows that it's supposed to end at 52 eps.

Hm... have the episodes from SpongeBob and Powerpuff Girls been getting worse in quality, or is this just a statement out of spite for popularity and merchandising?

No, I think they meant they pulled the plug on the entire series. Series like Pokemon seem to go on and on and on and on and on...they just keep getting renewed.
I don't think Sonic's gonna get the same treatment though :/
Oh well, in some ways that's a good thing - no more crappy rehashes/monster-of-the-day...like what happened to Pokemon's later seasons.

The problem of Pokemon is that they save the important stories for the movies instead of making sagas in the tv series. That doesn't leaves too much to do.

Um... see the link in my above post. The titles of the episodes do seem to give the hint that it really was supposed to end at 52 eps, not that the producers just pulled the plug on the series.

Anime series that go on and on like Pokemon are completely abnormal, especially when they're not following the story of a manga. They usually end after 13, 24, 26, or 50-something episodes, so ending at episode 54 would lead me to believe that the series was intended to end there.
In fact, the only anime series in the last few years that I can think of that just went on and on without following the story of a pre-written multi-year manga is... Pokemon. That's it. That's how abnormal it is for them to continue indefinitely like that.

And I liked that show. It was rare I got up in time to see it, but I liked it.
Here's to a hopeful series DVD release.

PPG has been getting MUCH worse (it turned Flash or some other digital animation sytem at the start of the last season, the lines are WAY too sharp now for the kind of animation they do... which is to say lazily draw one frame and just drag it around... also the RowdyRuff Boys returned and were EXTREMELY boring and cliche)
Spongebob however has ended, and is still very popular/funny (it does get the occational new episode and will get a movie, but unless something changed it's done for now) it's inclusion in that was either out of spite or the misconcept anime fans have that "American cartoons=crap/anime=genius"
This picture is unusally orange no?

Sonic X is a licensed show (which means there comes the problem of renewing licenses after a while. The Street Fighter comic's license for example is currently "only" set for 3 years) and 52 episodes is a pretty good run. Pokemon, despite being licensed, is so insanely popular that it can keep going. You can't expect Sonic X or practically anything to run for as long as Pokemon. Pokemon is like, some freakish super phenomenom of sorts.

Yup. What everyone else has said is true. And Pokemon is really the exception to the rule. The thing is that when something is so pervasive, like Pokemon, it looks like that its the norm, even when its so glaringly different. Pokemon=abnormality, is correct.
