I've heard of two methods that work based on what type of protection the disk has.

A) Hold down left shift to disable auto-run when you put in the CD (I assume you're using windows). Some CDs load a program that prevents them from being copied.

B) There's some wierd trick to marking rim (and/or) interior of the disk with a black marker to prevent it from reading the copy protection area.
