Just curious if anyone knows if the PS2 or Xbox DVD player can be made to play all region DVD's? I've heard/seen of Xbox mods more than PS2, so I'm just curious if it's possible and also how to do it. And while we're at it, does anyone have a link to any sites that list region hack codes for stand alone DVD players? Much appreicated.

There's a boot disc for playing dvds from other regions for the PS2. ncsx.org carries it, or at least they did last time I noticed. I'm sure there are a number of xbox hacks, but I don't know of them. Luckily, my xbox and ps2 are different regions so I don't need one myself.

Do you know what the PS2 one is called? I just checked out ncsx and all they had was stuff to allow your Japanese PS2 to play imports or the action replay for the Gamecube.

For Xbox, if you mod it, there is a region-free DVD player software you can download to install on your hard drive. It also allows you to use the controller as a remote control in case you do not have a DVD dongle/remote or your remote is lower on battery power.

The GameShark/Action Replays let you watch region free DVDs, at least that's what they say in ads...

Latest editions of GameShark for PS2 will allow you to change regions, one at a time, to anything from R-1 to R-6 (can't remember if they can be set to R-0/R-ALL/R-FREE). The region change remains in effect until you change it again, or until you power-down the PS2. I've been told the latest editions of ProAction Replay work similarly.

Want to hear something evil? I have heard that some of the new DVDs being produced check to see if your player is set to region free. And if it is, it will refuse to play.

Damn. Well will those fools learn that fighting with your customers is a BAD idea. Geeeeeeze. People will continue to just work around their little locking schemes. I mean, really, the best answer is for them to do something that is reasonable for both the consumer and their business. But this one-sided BS is just BS.

Like the whole deal with regions. It would just be a whole lot better if businesses just got on the ball and ported high demand movies/games to the US faster. But no. They want to be in control and they want to take whatever amount of time they wish. Thats BS. If Capcom releases SF4 in Japan for the PS2, then Capcom USA better hurry and bring it over here otherwise I may buy the Japanese version.

Region codes are just an excuse to be lazy and greedy. Why fight us, the consumer. STUPID. okay, end rant.
