I need a free word processor for win98 that can let me write in at least hiragana and katakana. Where can I find something like that?

Not sure if these install properly on US Windows, but why not just got to Microsoft's page and download Imput Method Editor (IME) for Japanese--it lets you choose to switch between English and Asian languages for Word and Internet Explorer (i.e. webmail). Should do the trick, mate.

I already have the Japanese IME, but I don't have Word. I don't have any word processor aside from Wordpad. That's why I'm asking about this.

njstar.com has a free 30 day trial "wapuro", but the demo's font is limited to one that isn't the prettiest, but that is the only one I can tell you of other than Word.

Hmm, IME works at full capacity (kanji nyuuryoku and everything) in Wordpad and even Notepad in Win2000, I'm surprised it doesn't in 98!

You can also get OpenOffice.org. It has all the functionality "average" people need from Microsoft Office, plus it is completely free. It also has support for asian languages
