I'd guess ego, or if not disproportioned ego he is short sighted enough so as to actually believe that.
*reads article*... I still don't see why they'd want to make this the last shooting game made by them.
I've complained about people saying shooters are dead before. They'd been saying that sense like the mid or maybe late 90s. Yet new good shooters kept coming out -prooving the idea that shooters are dead to be wrong. This guy says they weren't confindent enough to make a new shooter a few years ago.... And that to make this game he had to tell their bosses that this would be the "FINAL". He tells his staff let's make this game because we joined Irem... It seems like a small group made most of the games themselves and most of the others came in later, like on the 100 ships example... He wants this to be Irem's last R-Type game and he wants to get other developers to not make shooting games? I think this guy likes shooters so it's a bit odd. I think this guy is just querky.
