I didn't want to post any more stuff like this here, but I'm at a point of last resort so it has to be done. I'm having a really weird IE problem. I've tried going to Microsoft support but they've been about as helpful as the average snowfall in hell. So, I was hoping maybe someone here has had this problem, or might know how to fix it:

Anyway, whenever I press Enter in IE, the window goes into the background. So every time I, say, post a message here I have to grab my mouse and re-click on the window every time I press Enter. At first it seem insignificant, but it's really getting on my nerves now. I have run Ad-Aware, Spybot, and other crap but nothing seems to make it stop. And since Microsoft in their infinite wisdom doesn't let you re-install IE without re-installing the entire Win98 OS, I'm left with a pretty crappy problem. So if anyone has any ideas, please tell me.

Sounds like a windows bug or a virus. If it's just a bug perhaps you can can update to a different version or install a previous version of IE. If you have to reinstall windows to change out the IE, you could instead just install Mozilla, Netscape, or another browser.

I concur because I've never come across a problem like that. And I've seen a lot of problems.

From rumors that I've heard, OSs like 98 and below are prone to problems now with the new forms of marketing (Pop-up ads from insecure lines...I've already posted about this one). Perhaps something's trying to send an ad. to your computer, but something on your computer is counteracting that pop-up.

I would recommend an installation of Windows XP or maybe a change in internet browser. Try your luck with Mozilla first, I've never used it myself, but I haven't heard of any problems with it. Netscape has it's limitations, but then again, it could be the limitation of the IMacs at school instead.

I have encountered similar "quirky" IE problems/bugs myself too. Though they were nothing major, but when the problems get on my nerves, I just take the easy way out and re-install everything again to save all the frustations.

But do heed the advice of Gen and Myst and see if install another browser would solve the problem. If it doesn't, well I guess either get used to using another browser, or re-install everything again.

By the way, Microsoft help doesn't really offer real help most of the time.

I'm having a similar problem (I have Windows XP).
If I open mutliple windows, the window that loads first, pops up, leaving my active window in the background, and if another window loads, it goes up to the front, leaving the rest in the background, and so on.
This shit is REALLY annoying, and I can't pipoint the source of this evil.

I've had this problem since a few days ago...

I will try to search for a cure, in the meanwhile, I will bump this thread.

Is there some hidden window display properties setting in XP that governs what window's on top?

I have XP, but the software I need to run doesn't work under XP. That's why I'm still using 98.

I installed all security updates but that didn't help. I upgraded to most recent version of IE but that didn't help either.

I haven't really done anything much to IE since I got this computer a month or two ago. If Mozilla is good enough, I think I might just switch. I'd need a way to find out, though.

All Internet Explorer users please take note

I don't know if your problem comes under this but:

IE has been victim to suble adware type viruses lately. It loads threads that run in the background and you can't see them in the process menu in Windows so you can't Ctrl+Alt+Del to get rid of them. It's a vulnerability in IE's Java thingy and needs a 5MB patch from MS to fix. But to find and get rid of the viruses you'll need to use a program called CWShredder. Virus scanners like McCafee and Norton will not get rid of the problem.

My problems were a really slow response from IE when I clicked or mouse-overed on a link and it wouldn't keep up with me when I was typing in a form (like this).

So type "slow internet explorer problem" or something similar into Google and you'll get a forum with loads of people posting the same problem and solutions to the problem.

You could use Opera instead if you can't re-install IE in Win98 (but I think you can)
