Having observed this board for a few years, I've come across a subject that... well, if I had good judgement, I wouldn't be bringing it up. And before you ask, yes, yes, I've been to that .net.

Without further adieu, what the hell is this bakla business?

How can I put this in terms people can understand? Bakla is Tagalog for, to put it loosely, weirdo. I won't go any further than that.

The "bakla" name makes me think of baklava! Who doesn't love baklava?! I have some in my fridge right now! Staying cold and not moldy!

And like baklava, bakla.net is delicious fun for all ages!

Um. I'm going to stop talking now.

Hey, remember Pepsi Blue?!

I just always figured it was a bastardization of baka (generic japanese insult). If native japanese speakers butchering english is called Engrish, what do you call it when native english speakers butcher japanese? <scratches head>

But you can drink Vannila Pepsi! It's the not-so vanilla vanilla! It still taste like ass like vanilla Coke but it's X-TREME!!!!

speaking of Pepsi Blue, Food Network's Unwrapped said they considered Banana flavored Pepsi before focus groups swayed them to Berry... although both probably taste as stupid, Banana or "Monkey Cola" would probably have sold better... at least if they said "put ice cream in it! it's a banana split float!"

It's too bad Pepsi Blue didn't do well.. I bet in opposite world Coke has just released "Coke Blue: the Blue that won't make you fell so Blue!" and Pepsi is probably planning a whole line of festively colored drinks! Which are really just Shastas in Pepsi bottles!

Dont be sad. You can easily emulate the wonderful taste of pepsi blue by mixing melted gummy bears and dog pee for the exciting sensation you love!

Vanilla pepsi tastes like cough medicine without the alcohol.

It's not quite dead, just out of major distribution. AFAIK Pepsi still makes the product, but getting it is a pain. I went to my hometown for the weekend, and they had it there, just in small quantities. Here in Boston, there's none! It's crazy.

Pepsi Blue's major website is gone, but it's still on Pepsi's product list. I hope it doesn't die out like Josta, but remains like a Coke II sort of product. Still produced though the general public thinks it's dead. As long as I can drink it.

This is what I found. Baklaterrific!
balka

"We tend to translate "bakla" into "gay" or "homosexual" but that rendition is not quite accurate. "Gay" or "homosexual" in a Western setting refers to someone attracted to the same sex. In Western societies, the "rule" is that gay men go to bed with gay men, lesbians with lesbians. In the Philippines, a bakla, at least traditional ones, will not go to bed with another bakla--such behavior is bound to set off thunder, lightning, earthquakes and, worst of all, tsismis"

Tsismis?

If there's a Cielcurry, do you get to eat her? Can you leave her glasses on?

Supposedly, Sweden is the only country where Vanilla Coke (tm) hasn't been at least a tiny bit sucessful. Is it because we have extra refined taste, or are we simply missing something (like mixing it with dog pee, as suggested above... or was that Pepsi?)? To me, it tastes like hell on earth. I had two sips and threw my bottle away and haven't tasted it since.

As far as I could tell, it's dead, but any of the stuff I saw in the stores was just leftover stock? I hope that SOME part of Pepsi was still making Pepsi Blue, but I don't hold much hope for drinking it ever again.

I doubt they have months worth of old stock. But I'll be contacting some distributors soon, and I'll let you know what I hear. I don't like losing another drink I love.

Okay, cool. I mean, this isn't like Surge or Crystal Pepsi... I actually like Pepsi Blue and hope to see it somewhere again.

I swear, this is going to get as bad as finding those Brach's candy hearts near Valentine's Day... Brach's hearts are awesome; all the other brands taste like medicine.

Bakla

It's a term that means 'gay'. In itself, it probably doesn't mean any harm, but it becomes derogative when other people use it to describe a non-homosexual guy.

I have to ask, though, who started the bakla bit in the Cafe?

quote:

Tsismis?

Tsismis means gossip.

Somehow homosexual people in the Philippines only like straight guys. =/ They treat themselves as 'female', therefore liking another 'bakla' would be weird for them.

I hope that's clear enough. =/
