Personally, I've been happy with 2000/XP.. It has been quite stable ever since they based their consumer stuff on the NT codebase.

Make that since 3.1. The day Windows became more than a GUI for DOS was the day I began to loathe it. Sacrificing functionality, raw power, and security for "user-friendliness"? No thanks.
Probably why I still type all of my important grad/thesis stuff on my old P1-75 running DOS 6 and Wordperfect 5.1: absolutely no chance of losing shit because of Windows' ineptitude. ;)
