Well, not the true saint seya in fact.
But Last day I got my SvC mook copy, and in it I've see some really strange a fun things.

all about athena, those are many detail that make me think to an homage or joke.

1st her name, athena, here the link is clear with the Mange Athena.

2nd in her DM heaven's gate, she riding a lion, a Gold lion!! and she wear herself a gold armor, here it make me think to Aiola quickly.

3rd in her other Dm Poseidon rage, the name of Poseidon here is clear, but more wierd sha wear exaclty the some (if not REALLY, REALLY similar) Trident than Poseidon have in the anime...

And finaly the thing that makes me discover it her Exceed, in this one she ride the lion and than an huge Pegasus that rush into you.
so the relation to pagasus is clear, but the name of the move more!!!
it is called "Pegasus Fantasy" just like Saint seya OST ( Pegasus no fantasy in fact)

but well we can't say that those are just coincidense... and I'm sure many more can be found like her specil move where she wear a with dress and a staff....

Athena, Poseidon, Pegasus, etc, are Gods or mythological creatures, so it's not strange to relate them. Kurumada did it in SS, and SNK has done it in SvC.

However, "Pegasus Fantasy" is just TOO obvious...

the thing is not that they've related Athena and the other gods, but thing like the Gold lion or the trident are from SVC related to Saint seya!!

They didn't just relate the greek mitology, but here it seems clear that those are make for some SS homage, "Cameos"...

Hmmmm... I was about to answer the same than TM but you've got a point in there. You're probably right, I'd say.
It's nice IMO that they do those little hommages (better than some others far more obvious, aka copies, like K9999)

Mwahahaha! I'm gonna murder someone...

How do you say "sushi" in Japanese? :D

Your right... I already noticed that they are trying to take some stuff from Saint Seiya or let me say Greeks Mythology... Even Athena's hair is purple just like Athena from Saint Seiya... Well it's very nice to see some of the lords like Posiedon, Zeus, Hades...etc in a KOF game or any other fighting game ;) but I doupt if they can design the characters as Kuramada and Shingo Araki did ;) don't you think so!?

Can you tell us more abot the book ?
Does it contain lots of artwork ?
The kof2K1 mook was great regarding artwork, with all the 'rejected' art...the 2K2 one was kind of poor...what about the SVC one ?
Thank you for any details !

sure 1st he's close to the KOf 2000 one, pics are set like usual I could say, like in the older mook (don't have 2k1).
As for the art nope! there is only a few of them at the end and a big part for athena..(only 6 pages an 2 for athena other are really cheap)

well everything else is good IMO (well I still don't like Nona's art at all...) and everything is showed characters, moves, tactics, bosses, win quote and endings...
If you can get it, do it.

Thank you for the information. I ordered the book today (Junku).

For your information, the 2K1 mook has a full section of 'rejected art' which contains alternative designs for lots of characters.
It's a must for people that like Nona's style.
And it comes with a great poster (Kyo) by Hiroaki.

It's no surprise; SNK has taken from various comics, anime, and bands all the time. They have taken from Saint Seiya before.

Seiya >>> KOF (Kula)
Freeze Coffin >>> Ice Coffin
Daimond Dust >>> Diamond Dust
Aurora Execution >>> Freeze Execution

Lately, they been too much and too obvious. I never liked it becuase it takes away from a character's personality...

...if "lately" begins in 94, with Benimaru... I don't know, I kinda like it when it's only in the names of the moves (ie : when it's not Tetsuo 49 or NobunaGaô).

How about when it is the move? (like Maxima Revenger, Clark Spark) I'd rather not have where I can tell that every new move, pose, or quote was just drag and dropped from somewhere else.

If Kula begins to do the silly Hyôga danse before her Diamond dust, I'll have a new favourite character.

ok...why is it that whenever people see things like this they think that the company is doing a shoutout to anime? anybody that has played the original Athena game from snk(old ass arcade title) konws that this is who theyre referring to.

the purple haired girl that is in ancient greece and must save the world with her super dooper jap hammer of doom. nothing more, nothing less.

damn fanatics always seeing more than really is there.

I'm sure everyone here knows that this Athena comes from the old SNK game; that's not the point they're trying to make. It's the similarities of moves or names or poses. (Can't comment on Athena; played SVC only a handful of times, most being against another player)

Besides, tell me a game SNK hasn't stolen from. From 96 on, they've taken quite a few references (they've been doing so for a while, but it got bad from 96 on). It's gotten to the point that I find it hard not to believe every new move was taken from other games...
