Yeah, this was a huge thing on the mailing lists when he finally completed it, and it definitely made a splash at Anthrocon. He was part of the con staff, though, so he couldn't compete in the con's invention contest -- he had it for a few walkarounds and the masquerade, which I believe was non-competitive.
A couple other notes he made:
- He designed the costume in mind of emergency medical technicians, just in case something went horribly wrong with the suit and he had to be cut out of it.
- Shipping the costume from Colorado to Philadelphia, PA (where the con was) was several hundred dollars in itself. He said it exceeded US$600.
And, just additionally, the roach is a bit of an inside joke at Anthrocon.
The guy's done some awesome work. And I supposedly don't live too far from him, but I've never met the guy -- even if we both have a good friend (which I know from the anime club) that relays costuming info/doings between him and me.
