Who has the best/coolest/awesomest dragon punch. Yeah, useless thread but if you reply to it, you must be irrational in your explanation why XYZ is the best dragon punch/uppercut move. That shouldn't be to hard.

Kushnood Butt's Kyokugen Kohou's unimaginable heat fries up the juiciest, most succulent fried chicken in the world. It's so succulent and juicy, it dons a wrestling mask and fights for peace, justice, and tasty fixins if you leave it in the fridge too long.

Ken's Shouryuuken is abosultely brutal, especially the burning fierce one from the Zero/Alpha series... Ryu's always had a better Hadouken, but Ken's Shouryuuken makes him more fun for me to play for sure. And Shinryuuken, with those frantic extra hits you can throw in, is so intense that it never gets old.

Guile's crouching fierce. Everyone else looks like they're just throwing themselves at the other guy, but he's standing his ground.

It just looks... I dunno, stronger to me for some reason. He needs a loud grunt to go with it.

Nothing looks as strong as the Mortal Kombat uppercuts.

...I just promoted Mortal Kombat, didn't I? I feel dirty.

In all seriousness, though, if there was an uppercut contest, I think any MK character would win in a second... I mean, look at it... it sends people flying through the air so easily! Not just a knockdown... they go flying! Some upper body strength, those guys have... or perhaps they're living in a low gravity environment. We may never know for sure.

Though, in terms of what we were allowed to choose from, shinryuken all the way. It's too much fun to nail someone with when they'e not expecting it.

Out of all the uppercut-style moves, my favorite has to be Mizoguchi's Tsuutensai. It looks more brutal and rough than any I've ever seen.

I voted Makoto since her uppercut is so useful for stopping jump overs.

If it were there I'd vote Rose's. Even though it's not very good, it looks cool to grab someone, fill them with Psycho power then throw them to the ground.

I forgot to add Haomaru's sword slash uppercut. A few Darkstalker uppercuts. D'oh! And a ton of other upper cut type moves from other fighters. Double D'oh!

I also forgot about the MK uppercuts. Those were GOOD uppercuts too because they felt so 'meaty'. I mean, the visual and audio effects that went along with them plus the large depletion of health-- ouch. And the psychological effect of all of it made you feel like your SNES or Genesis control had a rumble feature to it. I remember my friends and I would just try to uppercut each other because that was the most damaging thing we knew how to do.

Oh yeah, I also forgot a ton of Marvel uppercuts. Oh dang well. Too bad!

I personally picked Remy's crouching fierce. Very MK-esque because it knocks your opponent into the air and lets you juggle afterwards!

I picked Yuri for two rational reasons:
She can follow up the move with another DP
She has a DM version of it to dissuade jump in attacks even more.

I picked Yuri for two irrational reasons:
You can see a her arm pit hair when she performs it
You can shout the name of the move with her to impress your opponent who'll subsequently stand in awe.

I would take Donovan's fire spirit (forgot his name). I never use Donovan, but I always have to eat this move 4 or 5 times at the beginning of the fight to remember "you - DON'T - jump - on - AI - Donovan"

I can't bring myself to vote on any of those options - instead, 2 other come to mind:

- Billy Kane's diagonal stick stretch - he stays on the floor, yet manages to hit almost anything that tries to come near him from the ground or air. Damn annoying when you're fighting him...

- Terry's Power/Triple Geyser - punches the floor, yet hits anything coming from above, and can even juggle with other geyser bursts. Counter-intuitive, but very effective, and fun to watch when the Triple version connects with all the hits.

How is Terry's Power Geyser an uppercut type move? Terry's Power Dunk would count -especially since he feels the need to pointlessly fiddle with his hat during the move- but I'm not sure a move where Terry doesn't even punch up fully qualifies.

As for my faves, at the moment I'd have to go with Ken's Shinryuken. I have no idea how he can land multiple punches by spinning around in the air but the super lets you mash the buttons for a few extra hits which is great fun.

where's Dan you flithy bastitch?

OH! I get it this poll isn't to find out who has the best! It's to find out who is SECOND best so Dan wasn't required... sort of like why Sean Connery is left off a lot of "Best Bond" polls, since we know he'll win so might as well find out who's runner up.

1. Ryu's Shin Shoryuken (especially the SF3 version).
2. Chun Li's Tensei Ranka
3. Chun Li's Tenchoukyaku/Hazan Tenchoukyaku (they look the same).

If they were to qualify since the last hit launches, I would put Chun Li's Houyoku Sen at #1 and Makoto's Seichusen Godanzuki as #2.

Since anti-air punching moves where the character stays on the ground were fair game, I figured... "why not?..." :P

Terry's Power Dunk would count

I wish I had remembered that one - it's also extremely satisfying to knock them back to the ground with the move's final punch.

A list of my favorite uppercuts...

Demitri's Demon Cradle - Not much by itself, but use it after a dash or retreating dash and it's great for mind games that don't require throwing a fireball first.

Sagat's Tiger Uppercut/Blow - Starts lower, ends higher and does more damage than the overated Shoryuken. Another plus, it was never completely invincible when Sagat was made playable. Sure made him a fairer uppercut character

Ryo's Koho - Post KOF 2002, it looked more original with him facing towards the screen when doing it. Don't know what brought on the appearance change in KOF 2002, but the original look better return in KOF 2003.

Terry's Power Dunk - I love this move! I, for one, would miss this more than the lame Power Charge move anyday.

Iori's Oniyaki - One of the few uppercuts I can consistently supercancel off of.

Robert's Koho - See Iori.

Fei Long's Dragon Kick - Great move for a great character.

Kensou's uppercut kick move - Same as Fei Long. Still trying to figure out why Kensou's the only character in KOF with a anti-air move. Something wrong with a motion anti-air move?!

Haohmaru's Kogetsuzan from SS2 - The move could cut through most projectiles; great against scrubs who always go for that one projectile when you're too low on life to block it. Another good thing is that it was easy to toss Haohmaru out of the thing with a throw. None of that lame uppercut poking crap!

Kagami's uppercut move - See Iori/Robert. Probably the easiest uppercut to supercancel off of.

Kaede's uppercut - Similar to Yuri's, but the follow-up is cooler.

Charlotte's Power Gradation in earlier SS games - I personally prefer the old motion to the overused motion

Wouldn't that be "pre-2002"? As for my favorite... hmm... not sure one of them would count, but either Juzo's daitan muteki, Gen's gekirou or Asura's rojeleb.

Maybe it would be better to limit what counts, like "any move that jumps up with a hit attack" or something, so it's easier to choose. Otherwise Zero 3 Dhalsim's 4+jab would count, too.

Maybe I should have been more specific about what attacks I was comparing. For this poll, I was taking into account only attacks where the point of impact was a fist or handheld weapon and that predominantly rose up. So, the attacker didn't have to leap into the air while doing the attack, but it couldn't just be any rising air attack like Rose's anti-air grab or Fei Long's anti-air flaming kick. And the attack also had to predominantly rise upwards-- there are a lot of fist attacks that rise upwards, but the upward movement may be smaller then the horizontal movement (example: Terry's Burning Knuckle).

I forgot a ton of dragon punch style attacks. I should have added an "other" option for the different fighter series that exist. Still, it's surprising to see that Ryu and Ken remain tied for most popular. The Oniyaki and Tiger Uppercut remain closely tied for second most popular. It seems the classics will never lose favor.

A lot of people can't get enough of the slam-bang-thank-you-ma'am style of Ken's Shinryuken. It really is funny how both super DPs really show the nature of each fighter. The shinryu is just really rough, stylish and wild-- whereas the shin shouryu is pure finese, grace and concentration.

I'm kinda surpised for all the love that Makato got. It's a cool looking punch but very unorthodox yet a lot more devastating then any run of the mill DP-esque move.

Forget the wussy kogetsuzan, Haohmaru had the "let me rip you up then able to leap tall buildings in a single bound" TenHaFuujinZan (sp?). This was a hidden move where he did six on the ground kogetsuzan (The sword cut in to the ground unlike kogetsuzan) and then finished it with the standard leaping one, but he jumped further then any of the normal kogetsuzan

One of my all time favorite uppercut in gaming history.

Another one I just remembered and didn't see mentioned here was Reiji's Shoryuken-like move from Matrimelee - the second hit in the air with the other fist was already cool in the classic PI games, but the extra hits it delivers when you do with from a running state make it even more satisfying to connect with.

Nothing beats an OG very late Ryu/Ken jab DP from SF2. It's demoralizing for a number of reasons:

1) YOu just lost a huge chunk of damage.
2) You are now at a serious positional disadvantage.
3) All your hard work of getting close to those bastards just went down the drain.
4) All you did was stick out a s.short.
5) You know that no matter your timing, you can't stuff the move because it's completely invincible.

Yeah. Ryu's own did more damage, so I voted for him.
