Please be true...Please be true...Please be true...Please be true...
EDIT: Sorry for the all caps, I'm just a tad excited. Dante vs Sol? Dan vs Faust? Ky vs Zero. I'm so there if this IS true!
Weeeee. Another crossover. But unless I'm misreading, this one seems like it'll be done by Sammy, not Capcom (since it says Sammy is licensing the Capcom characters), so that's interesting. It'll mean that we'll get Sammy-esque gameplay as well as more up-to-date sprites, so that could be a refreshing change. Since Guilty Gear characters are more... zany than KOF or SF, we could probably expect a more MvC2-esque cast for the game, which is also refreshing since CvS and SvC both generally concentrated on the more "realistic" characters.
Course, I'd be kinda surprised if it were true since I wasn't expecting this, but not too surprised. It doesn't break Capcom's vacation from 2D fighting since Sammy is developing the game, after all. Wait and see if it's for real, I suppose.

Well I hope Morrigan gets a new sprite. The decade-old sprite Capcom keeps reusing is outdated to say the least. :)

It seems to be the big trend these days with fighting games. It seems Marvel Vs Capcom, Capcom vs SNK, and even SvC Chaos games are getting more attention these days than even Street Fighter and KOF alone, including newer good games like Matrimelee and RotD (if you can call that good). I'm starting to think that as far as 2D fighting games are concerned, the developers are for the most part running out of ideas. At least Sammy/Arc Sys. came up with some new ideas with GGXX and even now with GGX The Next Version.
Rest assured: if a Sammy vs Capcom games is in the works, it will probably make a lot of money IF (1) it's developed on a cheap platform affordable to arcades and (2) the game has lots of flash and (3) has something recognizable or sellable. In the US, it seems that the Capcom element will be the factor that will determine if the game will hit alot of arcades, but even that is in the air because even Capcom's last 2D fighter, Capcoms vs SNK 2, didn't arrive in a lot of arcades (at least from what I've seen in arcades here in San Antonio, TX). Also consider that Guilty Gear is pretty much a fighting game that only a few people really know about.
Anyway, if it comes to the US, I'll be happy. If the game is even on the drawing board, I'll be happy.
Now... about the game itself. There are a lot of possibilities, and too much to speculate on. It doesn't matter if characters have weapons or not. Slayer doesn't have a weapon, and technically, neither does Dizzy or Justice. And who say's Capcom can't be creative with their characters. We always see Fei Long with nunchaku. Chun-Li, Cammy and Guile (and Charlie) could conceivably use guns. But then, I'm just speculating.
The Capcom fanboys at SRK.com are probably going apeshit over this now praising it as the second coming or something (no offense to the 'cool' SRK patrons).

And yet, I have the sinking feeling that the Capcom side will have Dan, Sagat, Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sakura, Demitri, Morrigan, and that its Rival Schools rep will be a shoto.

How'd you know?
Yea, okay, so there are some really stupid fanboys out there that are so dumb that they'd call this game "A high res Street Fighter". My fault for underestimating fanboy stupidity.
A lot of the rest of that thread doesn't sound like Capcom fanboyism, though. Especially with quotes like these:
"Obliged God for this news, I only wait that the caracters are in the SAMMY standard, not in the "standard GARBAGE of the CAPCOM ".
This in the hour of Street Fighter to come back to be an excellent game... therefore of the skill that the CAPCOM this going, it would go to die together with it. CAPCOM is a GARBAGE .
Finally I go to be able to come back to play some related thing the CAPCOM.
... SAMMY... you is the greater ."
In other threads, most people seem to be more interested about finally seeing Capcom characters in high res and with redrawn sprites. Which, after 8 years+ of Capcom rehash, would be rather nice.

Oh please, no more shintennô ; I'm even fed up of Vega and Balrog. No more Guile, no more Ryu/Ken/Gouki/Dan taking 4 places on the roster, even Dahlsim should go to rest if that can open a place for even the lamest character of Vampire. And Zaki, Nagare or Hayato would rock my world. (I still hope Kyôko will appear in a SNK crossover to team up with Shermie, but hey...)

Dan and Sagat aren't shotos, dumbass. Dan is Saikyo and Sagat is Muay Thai, both may have uppercuts, fireballs, and fancy kicks but they don't work at all like Ryu or Ken.... in fact the whole reason scrubs say Dan "sucks" is because they mistake Saikyo for Shoto and are shocked he isn't Ryu. (when expecting such is like excepting Zangief to play like Dhalsim)
Anyone whose actually played a Street Fighter game should know that by now.
(techincally Demitri and Morrigan aren't either, but they're close enough I won't argue that.)

On the bright side, as far as I can tell, there's only ONE character in the entire GG series that I've ever seen people remotely refer to as shoto-ish (Sol), and even then, it's extremely rare for people to do so. This means that, at least for Sammy's side, you can be guaranteed that a) if you complain about too many shotos in games, then there at least won't be any shotos besides POSSIBLY Sol on Sammy's side, or b) if you complain about people who complain about too many shotos in games, you won't have to worry about them complaining about shotos on Sammy's side.
On another bright side, given that it'll probably be a Guilty Gear-ish gameplay engine, we can probably expect more characters that are generally not regarded as shotos (thus the shoto complainers have less to complain about, which results in the complainers about shoto complainers having less to complain about) because 'shoto' characters typically don't translate very well to those types of engines, anyways (just look at MvC2's top tier and the fact that the GG cast doesn't have shotos for the most part, etc)
...though, not that they're all necessarily shotos (for example, I don't define Sakura as a typical shoto, myself), if the game does end up having Dan, Sagat, Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Demitri, Morrigan, Batsu, Sakura, Evil Ryu, Violent Ken, and Shin Akuma, I'd... well, I was going to make a comment about dying from laughter but looking at that list, I really wouldn't be surprised if all those characters end up in the game (besides Violent Ken).

Actually, the only character who's a shoto in GG[XX] is Ky. EX Sol (in GGXX) could be considered a shoto, but then again he's almost the same as Ky, so it's really just Ky.
And despite his fighting style, Sagat is usually the character who plays closest to the traditional "shoto style" (fundamentally Fb-DP, but it's a lot more involved than that) in any game now.
Oooooh. Oops. Well, I knew it was one character in GG. Don't know GG very well, though, myself.
