Whew... haven't posted in a while, especially after the first 2 weeks of the fall semester (I'm third year now so slacking isn't allowed much) but I did have some time to set down and check out the first episode of the Read or Die TV series... since I'm a big fan of the OAV I made time to watch this. Really it's everything I had hoped... excellent all around. The animation and music are perfect... and at first it doesn't seem linked to the OAV... but once the paper powers start and a link to Yomiko is revealed... it does live up to the name Read or Die. I'm actually glad that they just didn't start from where the OAV ended and decided to introduce a new cast. This is definitely the thing to fill the void left over now that Wolf's Rain is over (at least until the last episodes are out in OAV form).

Now all they need to do is explain what went on at the beginning of the first ep when everything was in grey.

I never thought I would say this, but I have now thrown away any regrets of watching this series when I saw the first episode. I'm not saying that it will beat Scrapped Princess as the best series of this year, but this could be the best series for me next year. Sure, Yomiko and Nancy are not here anymore, but Michelle, Maggie, Anita and Nenene make up for it. Dazzling art, decent characters, that keeps getting better and better, whoo! Can this get better and better? I hope so.

Edit: Bow down before the greatness that is Satsuki! =P

Loved the first ep, ties into the manga well and makes it intresting (I'm not a huge fan of the manga, a bit boring). Nice action, great animation, and Nenene rocks. Plus Yomiko is mentioned, meaning this does tie into Read or Die.

If they can keep it up for all the episodes, then they have a top level hit...

Just watched #1.

Awesome opening for the series. The first ep. certainly exceeded my expectations and now I'm definitely anxious for the US release.

Not to mention, the new cast is more entertaining that I had hoped for as well, considering how much I liked Yomiko in the OVA. The battle scene brought a big, dopey grin to my face.

And I'm glad they saw fit to throw in ROD's OP theme in there too. Such a slick track.

Another thing: it seems to me that this show has a lot of money backing it up. The animation was just as good as the OVA's. Let's hope they don't slack.

Gimme more more more.
