Maybe this is the future of fansubs to come?:
LD-Anime
It's interesting that they use lossless (huffyuv) raws. The size must be enourmous.
Transfering that file around through the net should take quite a while.

As for their projects, Those who Hunt Elves rocks. Any story about a gang going round the world stripping elves for a good reason is a classic.

And I hope I'm not the only one who watched Tokyo Mew Mew. I think Taa Kun did too?

I know I'm going to catch hell for saying this, but I don't like them already because they were subbing a show that had been known to be licensed for a long time (TWHE2). The entire point and fansub ethic is to NOT sub stuff when it's licensed.

Then again, some groups (such as whoever it was that subbed RahXephon) seem to ignore that and claim it as an old leftover from the VHS days (which I am proud to have been a part of).

Hell, my group has put subbing Overman King Gainer on hold until we know for certain that it's been licensed, since there were rumors flying around about it a while ago.

This concludes my controversial statement of the day.

I remember a hikarutilmitt with Elite-Fansubs. Is it your group?
If you are, good job with Kanon!
Didn't know that you were a board member here.

Don't want to debate about the ethics of fansubs. That's for another long nasty thread :)

I'm just interested in the way they're doing their fansubs. Most fansub groups nowadays double encode their fansubs from raw -> hard English subs in avi format.
I think it's a good thing to avoid reencoding the whole thing. Well, provided that you find a good raw :)

I've mucked around with the Matroshka format a bit and it holds a lot of promise, but I don't know when it'll take over avi's place as the format of choice, if ever.

If all goes well, it'll mean even higher quality fansubs and the handy option for multiple / no subtitles.

Er, I'm the editor for Lightshock Anime, actually. ^^; If you saw my name in an E-F sub it was probably in our collaboration with them working on Gad Guard.

I try to avoid saying so-and-so group is bad for whatever reason (well, I'm rather vocal about Anime Junkies, but anyway) but sometimes I feel the need to say something even when something need not be said.

Actually, a lot of groups should have been using huffyuv for a while, the better fansub groups at least.(including NLA of course)

...though looking around, most of the good groups I recognised haven't really been releasing much.(including NLA of course)

And I agree on the point on licensing, but sadly it appears that some fansubbing groups would not refrain from subbing licensed anime until companies start taking tougher legal stances.

Ah, Lightshock Anime.
Your group is very very brave to fansub Firestorm ^^
I must be one of the very few people in the world who doesn't delete it after watching the 1st episode, hehe.
I don't hate it, it's just that I don't see why people hate it so much. I guess I have a high tolerance rate? Hmm.

Zepy:
Didn't know about the huffyuv bit. I thought it was too much of a bother. Thanks for the info.
Hey, kick up some dust and ask NLA to fansub one of the new anime in October, like um, Chrno Crusade or something? :)
I heard Rice-Box and Anime-Kraze are teaming up to sub that one. Weird combination!

BTW, what is your job in NLA?

A long long time ago I was translator. Then I became QC, then now what I do is sit around and talk about the super vibrating clitoris ougi and exchange 2ch flash movies with the two other kichiku masters(translators) of nla.

True, Those Who Hunt Elves II has been licensed for a looong time (3 years at least I believe), but then you have to remember that not all languages are available when you get the domestic version of a series. What if someone from Germany wants to watch say, Weiss Kreuz Gluhen (since we're on the subject of Germany) when it does become licensed (if that hasn't been the case by now)? Still, I see your point.

What I want to know is "Why doesn't this have Chinese?" You have all of these languages, but you don't see Chinese anywhere. Oh well.

Takino Tomo-chan - Kimura-sensei why did you become a teacher?
Kimura-sensei - CUZ I LIKE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS AND STUFF!

I have come across a few people that actually like it and say that it's not a bad show past the first few episodes. I don't care for it, myself, but that's me.

We shifted staff around a bit so now I'm editing GG and Romance of the Three Kingdoms (yes, 3G already did 2 episodes, but, ya know, they haven't moved forward on it much and they left stuff untranslated. Not to mention they couldn't decide between using Liu Bei's given name or his styled name [Xuande]. Ack, here I go again) and Koji is editing FS. I'm fine with that, though, since I'm an R3K nut and don't like FS.

Once I get a DVD drive for my PC we are probably going to start subbing Shurato.

There's a R3K anime? I didn't realise that there was one :)
Maybe I should start following it so I'll finally know what's really going on in Ikkitousen. Um, either that, or I should
1) just read the novel, dammit!
2) play the game!

The show originally aired in Japan back in the late 80s, making it look somewhat dated by today's animation standards but still being a good show because it has substance and a good backstory to follow. It's fun to watch. We SHOULD have the first episode out sometime soon, whenever the typesetting and encoding/QC finish up. It's certainly worth watching.

As far as Ikki Tousen is concerned, I've only been able to watch up to episode 3 so far (remedied by going back to the T1 this weekend :p) but they've given you most of what you need to know as far as its references to the R3K period. Still, it's worth looking to the stories to enrich your life, er, understanding of the show.

I would reccommend going to Kong Ming for some of the story info itself.

Thanks a bunch! That's a very good link for RoT3K info.

And I'll be quivering in anticipation for the release of your fansub :)
Ah, and your Tenku Senki Shurato as well.

Thanks. I use that site for anything I can't remember offhand when dealing with R3K stuff.

I'm hoping that Shurato gets popular when we start releasing it. If it's possible maybe it'd get licensed and we could get an R1 release of it. The show is too good not to be released. And it's my baby, so you'd be certain to have good quality with the fansubs (just like R3K). :P
