I will never understand.
My friend from Texas, who watches lots of horror movies, couldn't get to sleep for two nights after this movie. I guess I was so distracted by the underperforming cinematography, sound design, direction and lighting that I couldn't get myself frightened. You know...that stuff.
But then...I am a film student.
Plus, with how predictable it was, I just got tired of waiting around for what I knew was going to happen (horse scene, for instance).
And then there was that ending line:
Just made me HYPER-AWARE that the directer had no respect for the audience's intelligence. Ah well.
As karmic retribution for every time I've told someone that movie was horrible, I have to watch it THREE TIMES in my asian horror class this semester.
week 1: japanese version week 2: american version week 3: korean version
If I don't shoot myself in the face, you'll know I've gone crazy.
I'm petitioning the professor to change her syllabus ^_^

Well, I'm not saying there wasn't any predictable parts in the movie. Yeah, the horse scene was predictable. Yeah, the ending line was INCREDIBLY predicatable. Yeah, I knew they weren't safe at the end. But I still enjoyed the movie.
I'm SOMEWHAT of a film student... I'm an animator, so I study story and cinematography too, aside from the obvious "learn how to make things move correctly." I'm not saying I know as much as you do or more than you... I'm just saying I've got some experience with filmmaking too. I've got a background in graphic design and fine arts, so I look at color and shot composition too (I know, I know, you do too), and I liked what I saw in The Ring. It's not the best ever, I'm just saying I thought it was good. The scares were much more effective than any movie I've heard of that people say is scary... the atmosphere was creepy and they did a good job hiding the couple of jump-scares they had in the movie- no one ever just popped up and screeched or anything like that. I respected that. The movie isn't perfect- like we've said, there were a few predictable parts. It's fine if you don't agree with me, I'm just saying I thought they did a good job.
Well it's not summer anymore but I haven't made a new tag yet.
