Hey All,

I've finally decided to buckle down and buy an N64 and probably a GC. I hate myself for doing this but I deserve some fun everyone once in a while! Anyway I need your opinions on the Star Wars games.

Firstly, what were the better Star Wars space shooter games? I remember playing Rogue Squadron on the N64 and I really liked it. I even like the space shooter portion of Shadows of the Empire (everything else sucked). I think I'm gonna get an N64 just for this game. But what do you guys think of the Rogue Squadron series on the GC? Are there other, better Star Wars pace shooter games on different platforms? Just you over all opinions on these games.

Second question, was Ogre Tactics 64 any good? Is it a hard to find game? Is it like FF Tactics?

Third question. which are the really good Star Wars games. Honestly, I don't think I'm gonna buy any RTS or action-adventure-platform games but I still want to hear your opinions on these.

And lastly, just so you know. I'm a lot more interested in games that are set in the original trilogy. But still, let me know what you guys think of the newer trilogy games.

And again, thanks for your advice and guidance! (And hey, my zit kinda went away!)

Sorry I can't help much with the SW stuff... the only SW game I've liked in years is Knights of the Old Republic, which isn't much help to a non-Xbox owner.

However, as far as I know, there's no Tactics Ogre for N64, just Ogre Battle 64, which is nothing like FFT. It's not even as good as the original SNES Ogre Battle, in my opinion. It's not that easy to find, and it's probably not worth any inflated prices you'd possibly pay for it. Sad but true... well, in my opinion, anyway.

Well, best SW games are the old ones on PC, definitively.

FPS :
1/ Dark Forces
2/ Jedi Knight : Dark Forces II (and MOTS)
3/ Jedi Knight II

Space simulators :
1/ X-Wing Collector
2/ TIE Fighter Collector
3/ X-wing Alliance

And Rogue Squadron, a very good arcade game ^_^ Maybe Pod Racer too, he was fun after all.

Others can be trashed away.

When I heard that they were making an OB game for the N64 I was almost tempted into getting one for it. However I immediately lost interest when I found out that they (for whatever insane reason) used prerendered 3D sprites instead of 2D ones.

I will never understand why people thought that was cool. Rare games sucked and I wish that they hadn't convinced the industry that their ugly graphics were so great for a period.

No they didn't.

...well.. okay, with the exception of DK64. But the rest of their games were good.

I'm not really commenting on their n64 games since I never owned one but the Donkey Kong games were mediocre platformers and Killer Instinct seemed to me like all the combos were hard coded into the game.

Avoid Jedi Outcast (Jedi Knight 2) for the Gamecube, go for the pc version if you have the computer to run it (because of the multiplayer modes, downloadable characters, mods) plus it should be pretty cheap (15-20 dollars.)

If you can mooch an X-Box out of one of your friends then rent/steal knights of the old republic.

Edit: brain eating zit

From a huge Star Wars fan here, I say the best for Gamecube is gonna be Rouge Leader. At least until Rogue Squadron 3 comes out, which looks to be even better. As for the best Star Wars game overall? I don't really know. Haven't played KotR yet but I think I'd like it a lot. I like Galactic Battlegrounds for PC a lot. The Dark Forces games are good, but I don't like them as much as the Rogue Squadron games. They are probably my favorite Star Wars games at the moment, especially if you are looking for Star Wars games that spend the majority of time in the ships. (Rogue Squadron 3 will have a few foot missions, but it looks like it'll be really good).

I enjoyed Rogue Squadron a lot, although now you'll see how choppy the animation was in the hi-res mode.

However, BUY right now Rogue Leader for the GC. It's Rogue Squadron, but better, specially (but not only), graphically and sound-wise.

And it's also quite challenging, unlike many games nowadays...

It is very challenging. Hopefully Rogue Squadron 3 will be just as challenging if not more, though I really don't want it to be harder than Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader was.

I despise prerendered graphics myself. Low-budget GBA games are still overflowing with them. Grr.
