I really don't get the logic behind cancelling Futurama and leaving crap like King of the Hill on... anyway I hope they come up with a really funny last episode where everyone dies... or get married to eachother... or get married to eachother and die... meh. Too bad Cartoon Network won't spring to make new episodes for Adult Swim

Well King of the Hill is a very enjoyable cartoon when you live in the midwest US like I do.

I hope FOX gave them enough of a warning they were able to make a good final episode and aren't just going to air a lackluster episode the production crew thought would be mid-season rather the end all be all.

But don't worry! The Futurama fun will continue on with:
-The PS2 game... ZOIDBERG IS PLAYABLE!!!!
-DVD Sets... Season 2 this Tuesday people! (well in the US, I know the UK has been enjoying Seasons 1 through 3 on DVD for some time now)
-Block Figures (I-Men I believe, but they could be Mez-Itz... I'm certain they're not Mini-Mates, Pocket Heroes, Blockos, or Kubricks though) they're making a bunch of the characters, MORBO INCLUDED!!! YEEEEE-HA Morbo block figure!

also TBS is airing Futurama, so although unlikely I'm mantaining some shread of hope one of the Turner channels will order a few new episodes (or at the very least the series will continue as direct-to-video movies like Family Guy is planned to)

You know what, everyone is entitled to their opinion so it doesn't matter if you don't like the show. But I didn't like the show at first. I thought Hank Hill was just some dumb, overly conservative red neck hick. Well, he is a bit overly conservative but that's the funny part. They're making fun of that and praising the positive values in a conservative mindset. It's a cool twist and they show has damn good writing.

The best example of this was when Bobby entered a fashion show for boy models. Hank wouldn't let him go because, well, it's a boy model show and that's just too un-conservative and fruity I guess. But Bobby went anyway. Half way during the fashion show some young punks hijacked it and Hank rescued Bobby. Something like that, can't remember the episode. But anyway, the moral of the story was that Hank was right and wrong at the same time. The real reason he didn't want Bobby to go to the fashion show was because he would get picked on by other kids. Something like that.

Anyway, you should give the show a second try. It has very good writing.

maybe it does depend on where you live ... or your tolerance for that kind of people. i always liked King of the Hill. it reminds me of the people that i see daily (i live in Houston, Texas, by the way). but i know a few that hate the show. maybe King of the Hill presents a certain kind of humor. i can't explain it

but oh man, i will miss Futurama. lately, i just started watching it for the first time in months. ironic. on the plus side, maybe Fox will start showing re-runs during that pre-prime time slot. i hope

Watching King of the Hill if you've never lived in the midwest is like watching Red Dwarf if you're not a sci-fi geek, or watching Father Ted if you haven't been Catholic/Christian. It's humor targeted at a very specific demographic. Most people mistake this for the show just plain "sucking" because almost all American comedies are about families, body functions, and everyday weirdness (Seinfeld). In other words, things that absolutely everyone can relate to, and thus have the greatest chance of success among the horde of other lowest common denominator comedies on TV and in movies.

Other countries, as well as other mediums, branch out a bit more. Britain has Red Dwarf, Father Ted, Keeping Up Appearances, etc. Japan has Salary Man Kintaro, Slayers*, and a bunch of others (I haven't seen many anime/manga comedies, so I'm sure I'm missing tons of them). And mediums like webcomics have really targeted humor. Penny Arcade, 8-Bit Theater, Mac Hall, Errant Story, MegaTokyo, etc.

Just because you don't get it doesn't mean that it's crap.

* Yes, I know Slayers is a stretch, because it's really an Austin Powers-style "10% parody, 90% general humor" sort of show, but you get the point.

This is because of Fox's strange behavior with the show. Instead of giving proper promotion to the funniest show on TV, they preempt it, and don't show some of the new episodes for nearly a year if not longer.

A new episode hasn't been produced in nearly 2 years, yet all the episodes still haven't been shown on Fox. At the San Diego Comic Con last year they played an episode that Fox hadn't played yet. I still haven't seen that episode on TV, but it supposedly aired a few months ago. At the San Diego Comic Con this year they played another episode that after another year still hadn't been played on Fox yet. I think Fox finally aired that episode last week. They even said they'd come back next year if there was an episode Fox hadn't played yet.

I read a short synopsis of the final episode on-line, it was writen to be the last episode (not sure if that means it ends the series forever or just gives a sense of closure for now but new episodes could happen on another network) it sounds pretty good... I won't talk about it here to be considerate to those who want to be surprised.

Oh! and there's a guest star...

More few notes about the show:

When Futurama was on hiatus, Matt Groening and crew made this as a last episode of Futurama just so the show would end on a good note. It was not confirmed at the time though if this would indeed be the last episode.

It looks like Groening made a wise decision in making this episode...the show is permanently cancelled.

This is the last episode of Futurama.

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
The series basically revolved around the possible and probable romance between Fry and Leela and in this episode, it will finally be carried out.

End of Spoiler

It's funny... Fox doesn't even seem to care. I saw a commercial for the Sunday lineup yesterday and they didn't even mention it was the Futurama finale. After they had promoted the Simpsons and the rest of the lineup in the last couple seconds some guy says "and a new Futurama!" What does Fox have against this show?

No wacky little boy.

King of the Hill: Bobby
Simpson:Bart
Bonzai: If the writer isn't a retarded 10 year old someone's got some 'splainin' to do.
Malcom in the Middle: Malcom (and if you consider him too old, Dewey)

and how the hell do you advertize a show with no wacky little boy? That's why FOX shows no love for Futurama.

[and Hubert and Hermes' son (who's name escapes me -__-) only show up once every 2000 episodes, so they don't count.]

Not that the actor that played him was a bad guy or anything, just that the character was oh so wrong for the show.

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
Fry wants to play the holophone well for Leela, and ends up selling his soul to the Robot Devil for robot hands. He gets the Robot Devil's hands and most of the episode has parts where RD tries to get his hands back.

End of Spoiler

I guess it was an allright episode. And at least it has closure. Family Guy, I think, didn't even have a final episode. I did like the beginning of the episode when the Futurama title card came up: "See us on some other channel."

One thing of note: there was an Anime commercial for T-mobile cell phone service. It reminded me of Cowboy Bebop. Anyone ever see this?

thank you!

yes, i also saw that commercial. at first, i thought it was some American work meant to look like Japanese anime. you know, extra points for style or something. but it particularly peaked my interest because one of the guys had a Japanese (or Japanese-sounding) name. now, i don't know what to think. i'm going to law school

i would like to know the names of the artist and the other people behind the commercial

I'm pretty sure that's an American funded commerical intended to air on American TV (so there by not a true anime)... I mean the main chacter's name is "Johnny" and it has more poorly used anime cliches then an episode of Totally Spies.

That was on since Big-O premiered last week. It's not an Anime. The first time I saw it, I said to myself "I wonder how many people are going to go on the Internet and ask what Anime this is from."

Incidentally, if I betted on it, I would've lost.

Well, I think there's a difference between an Anime show/movie and an Anime-themed commercial. I know this. Still, it's an interesting commercial.

Yeah I made a thread on that Johnny Chase commercial a week ago and it seemed nobody had seen it then. Anyway that was a pretty lackluster last episode, I would have liked to have seen more characters return for the last episode... kind of like Seinfeld's last episode. At least they left it open IF some other network wanted to fund new episodes.

Yep, his name's Johnny, Johnny Chase to be exact.... www.johnnychase.com is the T-mobile site related to the commericals, I don't understand the site myself but sure someone will make sense of it.

So how did the doc die? I missed like 80% of the episode but spoil me on the details anyway.

I guess Groening had to kill someone off. I'm starting to get nervous when a series ends because that's when the character killing starts. It always makes me sad when a character dies, even when it's a heroic death like in the last Buffy episode. Or like what happened to Angel's son in this season's finale.
