Yeah yeah yeah. You thought you've seen it all at the cafe. But a thread about pimples? Well, whatever-- I need help!

The problem! Ever so often I get a pimple/zit/blackhead on my face and when I shave I sometimes also shave off the zit/pimple/blackhead. That's bad cause then I start bleeding!

Usually thouroughly scrubbing my face with soap works but it hasn't lately. And no, I'm not a teenager anymore! I don't have breakouts! I'm in my early twenties. But this is getting annoying. How is a man supposed to shave if he has to worry about a couple of damn little bumps!

Well Cafe Members, thanks for any suggestions!

I heard those astringent things work.

Or find some Eskinol. It worked for me to some degree.

Handsome Face with a Few Blemishes

Don't eat food that causes acne. I'm sure everyone has already had the dieting stuff hammered into their minds so I don't even have to list those foods that cause acne.

tried peroxide? some toothpastes have peroxide so it's a simple home-remedy; a friend of mine once told me applying toothpaste worked for him.

Remove the skin, flesh, etc from your face, you will never have zits, pimples, etc, and skulls ALWAYS smile.

Oh and you might want to grab some cotton and put some alcohol on it, clean your face with that (after washing your face with soap, or a shower, or SOMETHING.) Watch the piece of cotton turn black.

also, after washing your face, try putting dabs of toothpaste on the zits (while you're asleep or at home or something). i hear the toothpaste dries it up. i tried it out a few times when i was younger. i didn't notice any dramatic changes, but hey i'm not a hideous freak so maybe it works

EDIT:
i just now read Gen's post. how silly of me!

Damn, I was going to make that one. But at least Juan said nothing about cosplaying as Skully from Berserk.

If it's really bad, you could go see a doctor and get some prescription drugs for acne. I can't remember their names exactly... I think one was called Neo-Strata where you had to brush this stuff over your face and then wash it off. Supposed to work wonders :)

Antibiotics are supposed to help too, but I don't think it's such a good idea to take them just to clear up your complexion.

here's a tid bit of information that you might not know about... alcohol actually encourages your skin to produce more oil in the long run to counter act the drying. I wouldn't recommend it because rubbing alcohol is a lot of trouble for very little result... contrary to popular belief, it doesn't even kill germs at all. It just attacks the outer shell but doesn't destroy them at all. IT just smushes it around on the skin. So it's more trouble than it's worth.

Astringent also has a lot of alcohol and can cause your skin to produce more oil. You sound like you suffer from oily skin. (I know I do... so much so people slip when they try to poke my nose.)

If that's the case... take heart anyway... you're destined for less wrinkles later in life. ^.^ Ugly pimple pocked teens get to be the sexy middle aged people. Mua ha ha ha.

Ummm.. yeah. As for Mistress's Personal Rant Hour... I used to have HORRIBLE skin. I've seen worse... but it wasn't very attractive anyway. But I discovered that I actually had a bit of a hormonal imbalance due to a little medical thing. It almost entirely vanished after the use of simple birth control pills. (And some men are put on them if their acne is horrible enough.)

If it's something that's truly troublesome you might want to check that. Seems unlikely, though.

I'd stick with just the over-the-counter things. Clearsel <sp> works alright.

Though, I should probably admit that I just stopped caring about it. And....O.O I also don't have to shave. (And if I did... I'd hang myself from the rafters.)

Ok.. I think that about sums up my two cents.

Much appreciation for the cafe attendees! I'll try out the toothpaste and stay away from alcohol (unless it goes down the chute).

Again- thank you all!

Just a brief note that I can give you from my experiences with teenage acne: Drying out acne by using toothpaste, Clearasil cream, or whatever else is only for the sorts of huge pimples that won't go away on their own for four or five days. It will reduce "huge acne" to "small/moderate acne", but not "small/moderate acne" to "no acne".

Also, the idea that certain foods cause acne is nothing but a myth. The only relation between food and acne is that some people's acne is brought on by a food allergy rather than natural face and hair oils. You have no reason (or at least no reason related to your face) to avoid pizza or oily foods or whatever else those old wives' tales tell you to keep away from.
