Oh, and there was this 2 generals of the bad guy, the two girls... One was played by Mitsuishi Kotono I think, and that was even more stupid, because they must appear 2, 3 minutes in the whole game... I don't remember exactly how they disappear (or even if you see them disappear), but what I remember was like "I want to see that girl! I love Kotono so much! Where is she? ...well, she's so much cool, she must be one of the last bosses, you have to fight a lot to have the right to hear her! ...OK, so, now it's the big bad guy. She must be his last general who appear at the last minute to.... oh no, he's dead. Well, it must be her evil plan, she will turn out to be the real final boss and... oh, no, she's not. But she will be in the ending, and she will have plenty of cool lines to... oh, no, she's not. ... WHERE THE HELL IS SHE????"

Xenogears. The story is excellent, the battle system is unique and fun, and the game really is enjoyable for the full 60+ hours of play time, but I'll probably never play it again, at least not until it's rereleased for another console or someone hacks the game to fix its one monumental problem: text speed. The game has at least one full novel's worth of text, but the text scrolls at a pathetic pace that you can't speed up. Between the PS1 load times and hours upon hours of text that stretch for many more hours that they need to, I know I'll never be able to go back and replay one of my favorite games. I could probably tolerate it for thirty hours or so, but not the full game.
I'd lump most Final Fantasy games in the "great story/bad gameplay" category, as well. FF7 and FF8 both have great stories, but as games, they're easy, repetitive, and at some points just plain FLAWED, like the portions of FF8 where your characters split into two teams and the second team is level 5 or 6 fighting against level 22 or 30 enemies. FF9 and 10 aren't much better in that department, but I didn't like their stories at all, so I guess they don't fit the criteria.

You're refering to Okage: the Shadow King, right? I came soooo close to buying this because I love the concept, artwork, and character designs - but I ultimately declined as I had several other RPG's to play at the time. Sounds like a close call.... Is it really that bad?
Hmmm...well, I loved the plot and characters and settings and even the animations, despite having simplistic renders, but it has bad loading time (which is totally ridiculous) repetitive mazes (as in all of them are pretty much exactly the same) and some really frustrating fetch-type quests, one of which I would say is one of the worst ideas ever concieved. The fight system is decent, if not a bit slow, and the boss battles are challenging. It just...tests your patience. If you can get the game for really cheap, and you love the artwork that much...give it a shot, for sure. It's NOT a good game, but it has wonderful elements. Ah...some of the music is cool, too.
