The GameFAQs Character Battle, the video game character popularity contest that one hundred thousand people participate in per day, but that no one really cares about, but that also pisses people off to no end, has begun. The first two votes hung around one hundred thousand votes per day, but the third has reached 115,000 and is still going for another hour or so. So far I've got the first three correct in my bracket, but Squall Leonhart vs. Jill Valentine and Sam Fisher vs. Magus will probably screw me up. Today's vote, Tidus vs. Ganondorf, has probably robbed half the contest brackets out of a Flawless Victory already, since it is just a matter of decimals between 49% and 50%.

Let the apathy, misery, jubilation, and unadulterated bitching begin!

I was content to pretend it didn't exist.

I entered since I can always use free money but I think I'm out since I assumed Pikachu was more popular than Fox McCloud.

This would be more interesting if it wasn't the exact same characters as last year and designed so that we get "MARIO vs LINK 2: Electric Bugaloo."

I've seen "Electric Boogaloo" exactly three times in the last two days, once again prompting me to wonder what made this particular sub-title so popular. I mean, I've never heard of Breakin' 2 before, so was it made popular from something else, like Spaceballs or Simpsons?

It was on Family Guy and it has picked up on the Something Awful forums.

Well, damn it I'm out...

I guess I didn't think Tidus was less popular than Ganondorf. At least it was close.

The formula for this basically is:

Nintendo fanboys > Square Fanboys >>>>>> Everybody else.

This is only difficult when it comes between two Nintendo characters or something like Cloud vs Sephiroth.

It was also on Clerks:the Animated Series ("Looks like we won't get to see 'Dante and Caitlin 2:Electric Boogoloo'" says Randal with some of the strangest finger animation I've ever seen")

I think the reason it's used so much is because:
-it's got some nice comedy 'k' sounds! (ele-ecK-tricK)
-it sort of ryhems (2 and Boogoloo)
-it's one of the best examples of an odd sub-title ever (no ones going to be saying in "full throatle" or "curse of the black pearl" down the road)
-it's fun to say!

It's hard to figure out where the hell this comes from. Hardly anybody's seen the movie, but everyone knows the subtitle! I remember seeing it in a TV guide in movie listings as a child and finding it amusing, but never thinking anything of it, and out of nowhere, people start tacking it onto the end of everything. Even before Family Guy and the SA forums latched onto it.

It's madness, I tell you. Madness!
